PBR Future Games: Team Missouri Highlights

Day One that Futures Games in Westfield, Indiana's Grand Park consisted of position players skill evaluations.  OF Jack Duffy (Staley, 2016) posted Missouri's top 60 time at 6.84.  OF Craig Straws (Liberty, 2016) posted the only other sub-7 60 time, with a 6.91.  Other notable times were, OF Jacob Gonzales (Timberland, 2016) at 7.00, 2B Matt Miller (Oakville, 2016) with a 7.09 and SS Tyler Benninghoff (Rockhurst, 2016) with a 7.19.

SS Avery Jennings (Rock Bridge, 2016) posted an 86 MPH positional velo, good enough to make the top ten for the event.  3B Kaleb Schmidt (Kickapoo, 2016) and SS Tyler Benninghoff  each hit 84 MPH throwing across the infield.  

OF Ryan Perkins (Francis Howell, 2016) led Missouri's outfield arms throwing 87 MPH from the outfield.  OF Jack Duffy (Staley, 2016) and and OF Jacob Gonzales (Timberland, 2016) each hit 84 MPH in the outfield.  

Several Missouri hitters had exit velos of 90-plus.  C Sean Cooley (Staley, 2016), OF Jack Duffy (Staley, 2016), SS Chris Cornelius (Vianney, 2016) and SS Ross Messina (Staley, 2016) each had exit velos of 93 MPH.  Five other player posted exit velos of 90-plus.  

C Jacob Matheny (Westminster, 2016) had Missouri's top pop-time at 1.97, followed by C Sean Cooley (Staley, 2016) with a 2.00 pop-time.  

In Game 1, Missouri took a talented Illinois team.  Missouri took a 2-1 lead into the 5th inning, but fell 4-3 on a late rally by Illinois.  

2B Matt Miller (Oakville, 2016) put team Missouri on the board, smashing a 90 MPH fastball off the left field wall for a triple that scored Jacob Matheny (Westminster, 2016), who singled earlier in the inning.  Avery Jennings had two good at-bats, adding a sharp base hit to left in his second at-bat. 

Outfielders Ryan Perkins (Francis Howell, 2016) and Jack Duffy (Staley, 2016) made outstanding plays in the outfield.  Perkins with a diving catch and Duffy with an perfect route to ball over his head in centerfield.  

1B Justin Perkins (Francis Howell, 2016) reached on an error, and picked up an RBI in the seventh inning, scoring OF Tyler James (Lee's Summit West, 2016) to round out Missouri's scoring.  

RHP Kaleb Schmidt (Kickapoo, 2016) tossed three innings allowing two hits, three walks and fanned three.  He sat at 83-84 during his outing, and showed excellent command of his slider at 70-75 MPH.  
Hunter Swift tossed a quick fourth inning and worked out of some trouble in the fifth.  He allowed one earned run on one hit with three walks, a hit batter and a strikeout.  H was 79-82 with his fastball, and 70-71 with his curveball.

RHP John Brinkman (SLUH, 2016) worked two innings on 18 pitches, allowing one hit and striking out one in his two innings of work.  Brinkman fastball was clocked at 80-82 with fastball from high 3/4 release with good run.  He had good command with his change up at 74-75 with arm side release.  

Missouri will face of against Pennsylvania at 10 am and Michigan at 330 pm on Saturday.
