The Hotlist: 2015 Uncommitted Southpaws

By Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Most juniors have already made a verbal commitment, but there are plenty of players in the Class of 2015 with the potential to play in college and are yet to make a decision. Sticking with the theme of left-handedness, this week’s Hotlist looks at the top junior southpaws that remain unsigned.

Julian Alverio, LHP, Case HS, WI
Alverio is a big-bodied southpaw at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. His arm action is long and loose, from a high three-quarter slot. His fastball has run and he can command the zone at 80-82 mph. His curveball works on a 2-to-8 plane with near fastball arm speed and shows occasional bite at 71-73 mph. He has advanced arm-side action to his changeup and shows good feel, maintaining good arm speed with the pitch sitting 72-73 mph. Alverio looked sharper across the board with all of his pitches since the Midwest Future Games. At the Milwaukee Preseason ID he was up to 85 mph across the diamond, which alludes to more velocity coming on the mound.
