The Prep Baseball Report Mississippi scouting staff recently sat down with  Germantown outfielder to discuss his recent commitment to Hinds Community College. Below is a transcript of our question and answer session:

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?  
Carter: I didn’t really know what to expect in the beginning. I just went into it trying to create a relationship with the coaches I talked to and tried to learn as much as I could about their program.

PBR: Did location or distance from home play a factor in your decision?
Carter: Location and distance did not play a factor in my decision. I just wanted to go somewhere I felt comfortable and where I could improve as a baseball player.

PBR: Where did the college you chose first see you? How did your relationship develop with them? 
Carter: They first saw me my sophomore year. They ended up offering me before my junior season, and the relationship kept growing as I came closer to making my decision.

PBR: Who is the best player you have faced in your state, and why?
Carter: The best player I have faced is definitely Brandon Smith because he can throw all of his pitches for strikes and kept me off balanced the whole game. Plus, he can hit.

PBR: At what point in your career did you realize you were an elite player and became serious about taking your game to the next level?
Carter: Ever since I was a little kid, I always knew that I wanted to play college baseball. My ninth-grade year was when I realized that it would take a lot of hard work to reach my goal.

PBR: What were you looking for out of a college program to continue your baseball career at?
Carter: I was looking for a place that would give me a good education and help me develop into the player I want to be.

PBR: What is your best attribute as a baseball player and how does that transfer onto the field for your team?
Carter: My best attribute would have to be my work ethic. The work I put in off the field prepares me for what I do in the games, which hopefully puts my team in the best position to win.

 PBR: What part of your game needs the biggest improvement, why, and what will you do to improve it?
Carter: There is always room to improve every aspect of your game, but, for me, I need to work on my speed and first step in the outfield. To improve this, I plan to do outfield drills that key on footwork and explosion.

 PBR: What advice would you give to young baseball players striving to get where you are?
Carter: Being coachable is important to your development in this game. Constructive criticism is meant to help you not bring you down.

PBR: What do you do in the offseason to keep yourself in baseball shape and prepare for the upcoming season?
Carter: I spend a lot of my time in the weight room, and I do a good amount of running too. I also hit throughout the week and train with a pitching instructor who always gives me homework.

PBR: What do you like most about the college you committed to and what were the key factors in making your decision?
Carter: The thing I like the most about Hinds is the connection I have with the coaching staff. Some other key factors included the winning tradition and the opportunity to play with some guys that I grew up playing with or against.

PBR: What other schools were on your short list before you made your final decision? 
Carter: MS Gulf Coast Community College, Meridian Community College, and East Central Community College
