West Lauderdale Shuts Out East Central

Collinsville – Last night the Prep Baseball Report staff was on hand to catch the playoff match-up between East Central and West Lauderdale. West Lauderdale’s pitching staff throws shut out and takes a 4-0 victory over East Central.

2018 RHP Chance Denson (West Lauderdale HS), uncommitted, took the hill for the Knights and got the win after tossing six scoreless innings, allowing three hits while striking out nine. Denson sat 88-90 mph with fastball and touched 91 mph with good arm side action. Denson showed a quality breaking ball with late action at 72-74 mph, and was an out pitch for him when command down in the zone.

West Lauderdale was lead offensive by 2017 OF Cole Hurst, who recorded two hits and reached base safely three times. After reaching safely on a hit to the right side of the infield in the first inning, Hurst steals second and third and finally scores the Knight first run on a passed ball, giving the Knights an early one run lead. 2019 DH B. Luke came through for the Knight’s in the fourth inning with a big two out, bases clearing double, to give West Lauderdale a four run lead.

2017 RHP Colin Danley (East Central HS), Pearl River CC signee, took the loss, going six inning allowing four runs on five hits while striking out three. Danley sat 81-84 mph with fastball, consistently in the zone; also showing a breaking ball at 69-72 mph with big break and loose spin. East Central’s offense was limited, only recording three hits on the day, but where lead by 2017 SS Reis Trager (Pearl River CC) signee, Louis Morgan, and Dawson Hall all reaching base safely on singles.

2017 3B/RHP Tyler Lantz (West Lauderdale HS), Meridian CC recruit, recorded the last three outs, and earned the save for Knights. With solid defensive play, not recording an error, and a solid pitching performance the Knights would claim a 4-0, Game one victory. The West Lauderdale Knights will travel to Moss Point tonight, in hopes of punching their ticket into the 4A south-state playoff series.
