Wednesday May 4th

The Southern Conference 3A has produced four of the past five 3A state champions.  In the past five years, a member of the conference has played for the state championship.  Sun Valley HS hosted the semi-finals of the conference tournament, hosting four schools with hopes of making a run deep into the state playoffs.

Cuthbertson Tops Weddington in a Classic

Two senior arms matched up for Cuthbertson and Weddington on Tuesday night.  Austin Roseberry (RHP, 2017) worked a complete game for Weddington, flashing an advanced breaking ball and toucing 83 with his fastball.  Cuthbertson countered with Cameron Roberts (RHP, 2017).  Roberts showed polish and poise working out of a couple of jams.  His fastball ranged 79-81, but again it was the breaking ball that kept hitters off balance.

While Weddington scrapped and executed their offense to push across three runs, Cuthbertson used one big inning to provide the winning blow.  Cuthbertson advances to Thursday’s Championship game with a 5-3 win.

Marvin Ridge Ambushes Sun Valley

In the first semi-final game, Sun Valley was the visitor vs. the No. 1 seed Marvin Ridge Mavericks, even with the game being played at Sun Valley.

Marvin Ridge would set the tone early as they scored three in the first and two in the second.  The Maverick offense was clicking as eight of the first nine hitters produced quality at-bats.  Sun Valley, looking for an answer went to their bullpen depth, utilizing three arms in the first and six for the game.

The star of the game was Marvin’s senior LHP, Jake Kuchmaner.  Kuchmaner worked 6 innings and had three RBI’s on a single, home run and sacrifice fly.
