A new energy is surrounding the baseball program at Sun Valley HS.  Jared Barwick enters his first year at the helm with talent on the roster, but competing in the always tough Southern Carolina Conference.  On Friday night, Sun Valley welcomed Butler HS, a club with a history of playing well, especially late in the year.

The 3rd inning saw 2017 C Luke Parks lay into a ball and clear the 325 sign, with room.  The homerun increased Sun Valley’s early lead to 4-0.  In the 4th, Sun Valley put the game away.  Leading off, 2018 INF Caleb Barwick laid down a bunt hit.  Another bunt single, followed by a SAC Bunt, put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out for leadoff hitter, 2018 SS Zack Budzik.  Budzick turned around a fastball, in a positive count, singling up the middle, scoring two.

Caleb Bruce followed with a drag single of his own, running a 3.91 down the line.  A walk and pop-up later, the final blow was delivered by Luke Parks again as he doubled down the left field line, scoring 2 and putting the game out of reach.

Defensively, Sun Valley looks to be solid with several good athletes on the field, including Budzick, Bruce, and 2018 3B Sam Howell.  On the bump, Coach Barwick will need efficiency out of his starters as he has a couple of arms in the bullpen that can be shut down guys in short spurts.

The final 11-0 win over Butler is more telling about Sun Valley and their potential than it is about Butler as they will continue to improve throughout the year.

Player Notes:
+ Luke Parks was 3-3 with 3 runs and 3 RBI’s

+  2018 RHP, Landon Dennis worked all 5 innings.  Walked 2, K’d 2.
