Prep Baseball Report's Nebraska Spring Preview event took place on Monday, February 20, 2017. The event was held at Ultimate Baseball Academy in Omaha, NE. The event featured prospects from the 2017-2020 classes who showcased their talents in front of our scouting staff and multiple coaches in attendance.

The event featured players from all over the state of Nebraska and a few from Iowa and South Dakota.

Noah Leng, OF/RHP, Platteview, 2019
5-foot-9, 140-pound outfielder ran a 5.6 40 yard sprint. Smaller, skinny build. At the plate, some rhythm in hands, leg kick trigger, inconsistent barrel path through the zone, sporadic contact. Posted an exit velocity of 70 mph off a tee. Athletic aggressive actions in the outfield, quick transfer to a high ¾ arm slot. Threw accurately to home topping out at 71 mph.

Jon Garrett, OF, Bellevue East, 2018
5-foot-9, 165-pound outfielder ran a 5.5 40 yard sprint. Compact build with present strength. Square stance at the plate, high hands, simple approach mostly working up the middle. Ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted and exit velocity of 80 mph off a tee. In the outfield topped out at 80 mph from a high over the top arm slot. Waits for hops, uses momentum on throws well.

Alexander Wells, OF, Holdrege, 2018
5-foot-10, 165-pound outfielder ran a 5.37 40 yard sprint. Square stance at the plate, high hands and short leg kick trigger a slightly downhill barrel path. Posted and exit velocity of 81 mph exit velocity off a tee. In the outfield, works through the ball well with clean transfer, long on the backside and short on the front with his arm. Some stiffness in upper body movements. Topped out at 74 mph to the catcher.

Joseph Alsup, OF, Elkhorn South, 2019
6-foot-1, 165-pound outfielder ran a 5.12 40 yard sprint. At the plate, wide open stance, compact line drive swing path. Average contact during round of BP. Pull side approach. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. Behind the plate, threw to 2nd in the 2.56-2.7 range. Tall stance, inconsistent transfer.  Playable actions in the outfield, mid ¾ arm slot that topped out at 70 mph to the catcher.

Sam Steinmeyer, OF, Lincoln Northeast, 2017
6-foot, 170-pound outfielder ran a 5.34 40 yard sprint. Athletic frame. At the plate; leg kick triggers a long barrel path through the zone. Took a solid round of batting practice to hitting line drives to all fields. Posted an exit velocity of 86 mph off a tee. In the outfield, work through the ball, high stiff ¾ arm slot that topped out at 69 mph to the catcher.

Cade Kohout, OF, Norris, 2018
5-foot-11, 175-pound outfielder ran a 4.93 40 yard sprint. Wiry athletic build. At the plate, slight open crouched stance. Smooth rhythmic tempo in swing. Hard contact to all fields. Took one of the better rounds of BP on the day. Posted an exit velocity of 90 off a tee. Athletic aggressive routes in the outfield, high ¾ arm slot that topped out at 83 mph to the catch. Clean transfers. Strong follow in the 2018 class for Nebraska.

JT Olson, OF/RHP, Elkhorn South, 2018
6-foot, 175-pound two-way player ran a 4.9 40 yard sprint. Athletic build, present wiry strength. At the plate, lots of movement in swing. Aggressive leg kick, quick hands, timing has a tendency to be off and misses the barrel. Ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 73 mph off a tee. Playable actions in the outfield, quick transfer to a short ¾ arm action that topped out at 79 mph to the catcher. On the mound, funky short arm action. Heavy Fastball with sink. 11/5 breaking ball-inconsistent shape. Okay fade on change up that has deception with split action.

Caden Comer, RHP/OF, North Platte, 2018
6-foot-3, 170-pound two-way player ran a 5.1 40 yard sprint. Athletic build that should continue to add strength. At the plate, slightly open stance, tendency to get wrapped around the ball, ground ball contact to pull side during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 85 mph off a tee. In the outfield, works through the ball well. Clean transfer to a whippy low ¾ arm action that topped out at 85 mph to the catcher. Threw well on the mound. Repeats mechanics consistently, stays inline to home. Fastball jumps late to the arm side. Heavy action. Breaking ball should tilt across the zone and change up was consistently down in the zone. Strong follow as he continues to develop in the 2018 class.

Grant McKinsey, OF/RHP, Lincoln Southwest, 2020
6-foot-3, 178-pound two-way player ran a 5.25 40 yard sprint. At the plate, leg kick starts line drive swing plane. Pull side approach, line drive/ground ball contact during round of BP. Posted an exit velocity of 81 mph off a tee. High ¾ arm action from the outfield that topped out at 81 mph. Waits back on hops, transfers clean. On the mound, long whippy arm action. Heavy downhill action on his fastball. Breaking ball is undeveloped at this time. Change up was more consistent, arm has a tendency to slow.

Jacob Buckner, OF, Lincoln Southwest, 2018
6-foot-1, 180-pound left-handed hitting outfielder ran a 5.13 40 yard sprint. Slightly open stance, gets closed with short leg kick timing. Hands work well through the zone and showed occasional hard contact to the pull side. Posted an exit velocity of 87 mph. Aggressive actions in the outfield, clean transfers to a short mid ¾ arm slot. Threw accurately to home plate. Topped out at 79 mph to the catcher.

Cole Evans, OF/SS, Grand Island, 2019
6-foot, 190-pound shortstop ran a 5.12 40-yard sprint. Physical build, present strength in upper half. Slightly crouched square stance, rhythmic leg kick trigger, low hand set, loose uphill barrel path. Shows gap power when timing is right. Posted an exit velocity of 87 mph off a tee. Advanced actions in both the infield and outfield. Above avg. arm for his age. Strong follow for the 2019 class in Nebraska.

Carson Pilkington, OF, Elkhorn South, 2018
6-foot, 215-pound outfielder ran a 5.15 40 yard sprint. Posted an exit velocity of 90 mph off tee. Strong physical build. Bat should play at the next level. Short stride, good tempo, short compact uphill swing plane. Pull side approach. Corner outfielder, solid glove, clean transfers, topped out at 78 mph accurately to the catcher.

Caedin Hays, OF, Bellevue West, 2019
5-foot-8, 150-pound outfielder ran a 5.43 40 yard sprint. At the plate, swivel in hands start the swing, leg kicks into quick triggered line drive swing plane, hard contact to pull side. Posted an exit velocity of 73 mph off a tee. In the outfield, aggressive routes to the ball, works through the ball, high ¾ arm action that top out at 76 mph to home. Throws were accurate and online.
