Massachusetts Spotlight Game: Brookline vs Weymouth

In a Bay State Conference game, 9-6 No. 13 Brookline HS hosted 2-12 Weymouth HS for the second time this season. In the past, these two teams have had a couple of close games where Brookline came out on top and the same proved to be the case this time.

Brookline’s bats quickly came to life scoring four in the bottom of the first with a leadoff triple from junior OF Jack Roche and hits from sophomore 2B Noah Thomas and junior SS Ryan Leung.

After two and one-half scoreless innings Brookline brought two more in with a double by junior 3B Reo Shimbori making the game 6-0 Brookline at the end of four.

Weymouth came back in the top of the fifth with a base runner who was pinch ran for by Jack Jamieson. Jamieson advanced twice thanks to solid situational hitting by the top of the Weymouth lineup. Weymouth’s DH Cam Munchbach quickly drove Jamieson in with a single to right.

Brookline’s sophomore RHP Casey Wisel was able to silence the Wildcat bats for six more outs and come on top with a win.

Top Performers

Weymouth
  • Cam Munchbach, DH - showed a solid approach at the plate with a hit and an RBI on the day.
  • Kevin O’Brien, SS (Dean College commit) - showed smooth, quick hands and solid situational hitting. Gamer, always hustling.
  • TJ Keefe, C - showed solid hands and a plus arm behind the plate while having two hits on the day.
  • Zach Bouhov, LHP - an unsigned senior is a crafty southpaw with a tight CB that he relies on. Controlled the running game very well.
Brookline
  • Mitchell Schroeder, Jr, C - showed strength behind the plate with a plus arm and soft receiving hands and ability to square all balls up.
  • Ryan Leung, Jr, SS - went 2-for-4 on the day with hard hit line drives all over the field. Quick hands and feet around the bag. Hard core competitor.
  • Reo Shimbori, Jr, 3B - 5 tool player. Went 2-for-3 on the day with a single and a double. Always finds a way to get on. Had a couple of nice plays at 3B where he showed off his above average arm.
  • Jack Roche, Jr, OF - 2-for-3 on the day with a leadoff triple and single. Middle of the field approach.
  • Casey Wisel, So, RHP - threw a complete game with 87 pitches. Faced 30 batters with 25 first pitch strikes. Interesting prospect to follow as he gets older.
