Massachusetts Spotlight Game: Methuen vs Andover

Methuen, Ma. – An early season Merrimack Valley Conference game between two tough teams on a cool windy day at Potter’s Field in Methuen.

This pitching duel saw the Andover Warriors squeak out the 4-3 victory over the Methuen Rangers. Andover was led on the mound by Junior Cedric Gillette while Methuen started Junior Jordan Perdomo.

Andover got on the board in the top of the first with an RBI single by senior Timmy Kalantzakos (Merrimack College commit).

Methuen would come back to tie things up in the bottom of the inning without even recording a hit as Perdomo reached on an error and made his way around the bases by a sac bunt, wild pitch, and pass ball.

By the end of the fourth Methuen was ahead 3-2.

Andover tied it up in the top of the sixth and regained the lead in the top of the seventh as Sophomore pinch-hitter Matt Potts led off the inning with a single to right and would steal second advance to third on a ground ball and would score on a bunt for a hit with two outs by senior Daniel Walsh. Andover sent out junior John Marotta to close the door in the bottom of the seventh as he would strike out the side and earn the save.
