New England Insider: Class of 2020 Player Rankings (April)

With the spring season upon us, we look at some of the younger players throughout the New England region. There are a number of good high school players throughout the area and below is a list of some of the better players in the region.

We have seen numerous prospects over the past fall and winter at PBR events, local workouts and games from across the region, and a lot of time and thought put in from our staff with these updated rankings.

That being said, we have had the pleasure of seeing a number of solid players this past spring and summer. Prospects are popping up left and right, making velocity jumps, improving 60-yard dash times and showing more power with the bat.

Covering six states, New England is a prime area for legit baseball talent and now we would like to bring to you the updated 2020 Player Rankings.

At The Top

Matthew JoyceMatt Joyce, right-hander out of St Sebastian’s. The arm is legit, quick out front with good life to a low to mid-80s fastball. The spin and changeup are both advanced for his age.

Will Jones, left-hander out of Hamilton Wenhan. The 6-foot-4, 175-pound left-hander is impressive. The arm works easy and the secondary stuff has the makings of being special. Big time follow.

Matthew Shaw, middle infielder out of Wilbraham and Monson. Hits from both sides of the plate and shows good instincts with the glove.

Max Zajec, left-handed hitting first baseman. The bat has life to it and he is solid around the bag.

Myles McDermott, right-hander out of Archbishop Williams. Has the makings of being a power right-hander.

The Arms

Nicholas MarchettiNicholas Marchetti, a right-handed pitcher from Seymour, has a simple repeatable delivery, arm action is super clean. The fastball is 80-81 mph, the breaking ball has above average spin and tilt to it, clocked in the high-60s.

Lisandro Pacheco, right-hander out of St. Mary’s Lynn projects very well on the bump. The slot is slightly above ¾ and the ball comes out nicely. The arm is long and quick shows good action on the fastball.

Jack Ambrosino, right-hander out of South Burlington (VT). Good looking quick arm and durable frame. The arm works extremely well and the secondary stuff is coming together appropriately at his age.

The Bats

Julian ThayerJulian Thayer, a right-handed hitting infielder from St. Paul Catholic, can really swing the bat, squares the baseball up routinely, runs a sub 7.0 60-yard dash, projects more as a corner infielder.

Brant Savage, from St. Johns, is a slick fielding, fast twitch middle infielder. The hands and feet work well together, arm is clean, with life to it, high level defender.

Matt Venuto, left-handed hitting catcher out of Noble and Greenough. Good looking left-handed path with the ability to spread the field. The hands have good life to them.

Jack Conner, right-handed hitting catcher out of Algonquin Regional. Simple path, under control and projects to be a front line defender as he matures.

Frankie Hernandez, left-handed hitting outfielder and first baseman out of St Peter Marian. Excellent looking left-handed hitter with plus versatility in the field. Glove is solid and the movements are athletic.
