PBR New England Spotlight Game: Lowell vs North Andover

It was a well-played game all around for the Scarlet Knights of North Andover, as they were able to take down Lowell at Joe Walsh Stadium.

Senior RHP Will Berberich got the win, firing six innings of four hit ball and classmate Brendan Parisotto struck out the side in the 7th to shut the door on the Red Raiders.

Despite pitching well, Lowell junior starter Henry Funaro suffered the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) on six hits, well striking out five.

North Andover played a near flawless game and took advantage of every opportunity they had to advance runners and push the envelope. All six hits were by different players as everyone pitched in to take down the Red Raiders.

Lowell would score there first and only run off of Berberich in the 1st inning.

Junior centerfielder Keith Lynch started things with a walk and promptly stole second. Two batters later, with Lynch now on third, Funaro ripped a single to left, scoring the run and giving the Red Raiders an early 1-0 lead.

The lead would last into the 3rd, when with one out, Scarlet Knight senior catcher Pat Agri singled to right. He would move to second on an errant pickoff attempt by Funaro and advanced to third on an infield single by senior left fielder Ryan Bessette.

Another pickoff try was misplayed by senior first baseman Dawy Lebron, allowing Agri to score and sending Bessette to third. The very next pitch was a passed ball, bringing home Bessette to give the home team the 2-1 advantage.

In the bottom of the 4th, North Andover would add another run with help from the Lowell defense.

Junior first baseman Trevor Ham reached on an error in the infield with one out. Classmate Drew Finn pinch ran and immediately stole second and third. Next batter, senior third baseman Joe Bramanti drove a fly ball plenty deep to right that scored Finn to give the Scarlet Knights a two-run cushion.

In the meantime, Berberich was keeping the bats quiet, letting his defense to the work and throwing strikes.

The first earned run would be allowed by Funaro in the 5th.

Senior right fielder Mitch McQuate started the inning with a walk and followed with a stolen base. Junior Connor Morin stepped in as a pinch hitter and lined a single to center, which scored McQuate and adding to the lead.

Funaro again ran into trouble in the 6th, as it appeared he was started to tire a bit.

Ham singled to right with one out and Bramanti followed with a single of his own to left. Senior DH Joe Kramer made it three straight singles, plating Ham to make the score 5-1.

The runners would advance to second and third on an errant throw by the right fielder. McQuate followed with the Scarlet Knight’s second sacrifice fly of the day and Lowell’s deficit reached a final 6-1.
