Ott, Decker Slug Seneca to Win Over Delran

By TJ Hunt
Scouting Director, New Jersey

TRENTON – Seneca beat Delran on Sunday 9-6 in a game that went into the 7th inning tied. Seneca got its offense started in the first inning when 2018 C Ryan Lopez doubled and 2018 2B SJ Ott singled him in. Maryland recruit 2018 OF Nick Decker then came up and launched a home run to deep right center field at the Trenton Thunder's Arm & Hammer Park – a two-run shot to put Seneca up 3-0 early on.

In the top of the third, Lopez and Ott doubled and singled again to make it 4-0. The score would remain 4-0 until the bottom of the 3rd, when 2020 OF RJ Moten's sac fly brought in a run for Delran to make it 4-1. Ott would single home another run in the 5th to make it 5-1.

Delran came alive in the bottom half of the 5th when, with the score 5-2, Luke Smith hit a towering home run that just snuck inside the left field foul pole to tie the game. In the top half of the 6th, Seneca loaded the bases with two outs and Decker to the plate. Delran proceeded to execute a perfect pick off play of Ott at first base to end the inning. With the wind seemingly out of the sails of Seneca, Josh Knapp continued his spectacular relief pitching by putting up a zero in the 6th.

Seneca would open up the game in the top of the 7th with four runs – highlighted by Jake Wills' big two run single to break the tie. They would end up getting two more runs in the inning to make it 9-5. Delran would but one across in the bottom of the 7th, but it was too little too late.
