The Buzz: Top NJ Players Commit to D1 Schools This Week

TJ Hunt
Scouting Director, New Jersey

This week was a whirlwind in the high school baseball world in NJ - as some of the top uncommitted players from each grad class committed to schools. One of the top performers at the Future Games, 2018 RHP Kevin Eaise (St. Augustine Prep HS, NJ) committed to UPenn, fellow 2018 RHP Ian Murphy (Gloucester Catholic HS, NJ) committed to St. Johns, No. 6 2019 3B Drew Compton (Governor Livingston HS, NJ) committed to Georgia Tech, and 2017 INF Jake Barbiere (Randolph HS, NJ) committed to Rider.

THE KEVIN EAISE FILE
9/11/16 (Super 17 Fall Wood Bat Invitational, Diamond Nation)
Eaise picked up where he left off from his outstanding performance at the Future Games. 6-foot-1 195-pounds, solid, athletic frame. Loose arm, very easy velo at 87-88. Curveball between 68-73 with11/5 shape. Very economical outing, complete game shutout (5 innings, run rule). Methodical in delivery, lulls you to sleep. Fastball has sneaky velo, jumps on hitter. High 3/4 slot. High follow prospect.

THE IAN MURPHY FILE
9/24/16
Murphy has a lanky athletic build at  6-foot-3 180-pounds. Sat 86-88 in first two innings of work, up to 89 from a high-3/4 slot. Showcased a true 12/6 breaking ball at 70-71 mph. Has made a significant jump since the beginning of summer. Drives off back leg more to get some explosiveness down the mound. Long, loose arm action. Will cut his fastball on occasion.

THE JAKE BARBIERE FILE
New Jersey Games (July 23, 2016)
Barbiere is 5-foot-10 165-pounds and can play SS and 3B. Fundamentally sound - has all the right actions to play at the next level. Stance is athletic and load is fluid. Uses a small stride, weight transfer and hip torque help him produce some gap to gap power. Projectable frame with room for added muscle, quick hands already means there is some power potential. Exit velo was 78.
Fielding - fluid movements. Throws from high 3/4 arm slot. Has a feel for the game. Throws had carry and backspin at 76 mph across the field.
