Top Prospect Spotlight: 2016 RHP Jeffery Lee (Rancocas Valley HS)

Sean McGrath
Scouting Director, New Jersey

Name: Jeffery Lee
High School: Rancocas Valley HS
Position(s): RHP

Background

Lee is a 2016 RHP from Rancocas Valley High School and Gallagher Baseball, one of the most talented programs in the state each and every summer. He stands 6-foot-2, 200 pounds and has broad shoulders. Lee’s progression from the summer of 2014 to now has been excellent and should be a credit to his work ethic, as well as the development staff that has been working with him.

Scouting Report

Lee’s build is intriguing as it could really turn into a power pitcher’s frame with time in the weight room. He has up-tempo mechanics and keeps good rhythm with his hands into hand break. He has a long arm action with a slight pause at the bottom which is used for timing. He maintains solid linear direction and seems to have a solid grasp of the “linear action with a rotational component” phrase when describing pitching mechanics. He currently pitches with a heavy fastball at 83-87 miles-per-hour and there is more to come. He throws the ball with angle and lives in the bottom-third of the strike zone. Having a feel for pitching, Lee noticeably differentiates his slider; throwing it at 72-74 MPH in the zone with good bite and 75-76 MPH as a chase pitch with plus late tilt. With the steady two-pitch mix, Lee could be a very efficient high level reliever, and with the development for a changeup, the right-hander could have starter potential. I am anxious to see Lee in his next outing for Gallagher Team Mizuno, which will likely take place this upcoming week.
