Two Big Rivalry Games on Tap Today: Toms River North & Toms River South and St. Joe's (Mont.) & Don Bosco

By TJ Hunt
Scouting Director, New Jersey

There are two big time matchups on tap for today as Toms River North hosts cross-town rival Toms River South at 11am and St. Joseph's Montvale goes up against their Big North Conference rival Don Bosco.

In the first game, North looks to continue their momentum that started at the end of last year with an Ocean County Tournament Title. North has started their season 3-1 and will look to their stellar pitching staff, headlined by three Division I recruits - 2018s RHP Brendan Mullins (Penn State), RHP Anthony Sasso (Villanova), and LHP Jared Bellissimo (Rutgers). South will rely on their workhorse on the mound, 2017 LHP Justin Fall (St. John's recruit). The probable starters today are Mullins and Fall.

At 4pm at St. Joseph's Montvale HS, the Green Knights will host the Ironmen of Don Bosco. Two perennial national powerhouses going up against one another in an early season matchup is certainly a can't-miss game, especially with who the probable starters will be. St. Joe's will look to senior ace and Virginia recruit Devin Ortiz and Don Bosco will go with uncommitted junior right hander Matthew Semon. Ortiz has been spectacular so far this year both on the mound and at the plate, recently launching a walk off grand slam in a win last week against Paramus Catholic. Semon sits comfortably at 84-86 but can bump it up even higher when he needs to. Short, quick arm action with explosive movements going down the mound.
