CBA 4 - Albany Academy 0

Today's crosstown match-up between CBA and Albany Academy, was played at Joe Bruno Stadium.  Home to the Tri-City Valley Cats, of the New York Penn League.

For the non-league match up, CBA head coach Casey O'Connor would call on his tall RHP, William Van Beusekom, to face Academy's Max Perrota.

In the top of the 1st with one out, Lorenzo Horvath worked the count to full, and was able to draw a walk.  After reaching 2nd on a ball in the dirt, Horvath's heads up base-running gave CBA the early lead.   Dominick Herald hit a ground ball up the middle that was bobbled and eventually got away from the Academy SS.  Horvath never stopped running, and cruised into home without a throw.

Van Beusekom took the mound in the bottom half, worked quickly and retired three of the four batters he faced.

In the top of the 2nd, CBA looked to add to their lead.  After a leadoff line drive single by Van Beusekom, 1st basemen Davis Payne was hit by a pitch.  Dominic Savona stepped to the plate and bunted the runners over, bringing up the 9 hitter Peter Close.  After working the count in his favor, Close lined a double deep to the left center warning track.  Both runners scored easily, making the score 3-0. CBA would add one more in the top of the 4th on an RBI single by SS Matt Hamel.

Van Beusekom, on the mound was giving the Albany hitters trouble all day. He was able to command his fastball on the inside corner, and made hitters chase his low curveball when ahead in the count. It wasn't until one out in the 4th, that he would finally give up his only hit of the day, a single to center by Brooks Knapek.  Louis Lacivita came in to close the deal, and easily retired the five batters he faced in order.

WP Van Beusekom 5-1/3 IP, Pitches(100), Hits(1), R(0), BB(5), K(4)

LP Max Perotta 4IP, Pitches (69) - Hits(3) - R(4), ER(3), BB(2)

PBR's Take
Casey O'Connor's club is very good all around, and they do all the little things right.. Strong defense and pitching will keep them in a lot of games if their bats are quiet.

Albany Academy really couldn't get anything going.  Perotta kept them in the game with a gutty 3 hit performance, but Van Beusekom and Lacivita seemed to be too much for the Cadet's lineup.

Ichabod Crane, 5 Ravena 0
Ichabod Crane's Yankowski brothers push their way past Ravena.  Danny a 2016, RHP, who threw a complete game three hitter on an 86 pitch effort.  Younger brother David a freshman went 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored.
