Commitment: Haverford College

Commitment Q and A

PBR: Tell us all about your recruitment process, when it started, and why you decided to commit to Haverford College ?

Smith: My recruiting process really began after attending the PBR event at Cornell in June.  It was a great event, and I was approached by many coaches afterwards.  I continued to play travel baseball and attend other events throughout the summer.  Ultimately, I was fortunate enough to be approached by 27 different schools throughout the summer, including several Division 1 and Division 3 schools.  I was eventually able to narrow my list down to a few schools, and it was a very difficult decision, but I ultimately chose Haverford because of the academics, the way they support student-athletes, the opportunities I would have after baseball, and level of success they have had with their baseball program.

PBR:  Looking at your skillset on the baseball field, what would you say your biggest strength at the next-level will be?

Smith:  I believe that my hitting ability and speed will be my biggest strengths at the next level.  I also think that I developed a competitive nature by playing football and basketball in high school that will be able to carry over to the college level.

PBR:  What’s your No. 1 priority going into the Winter in terms of getting prepared for next spring?

Smith:  My number one priority is continuing to work on strength and speed to be prepared to play at the college level.  I also would like to work on my arm strength, as I think this is the place where I can improve the most.  I will spend a lot of time preparing for the season around  football  and basketball.

PBR:  Who is your biggest influence when it comes to playing the game of baseball?

Smith:  My parents have been my biggest influence because they always support me in everything I do, attend all of my games in every sport, and continue to teach me life lessons.

PBR:  Prep Baseball Report’s No. 1 goal is to provide players with an unrivaled platform filled with next-level exposure through events and multi-media avenues. What’s your experience been with us?

Smith:  I have had a phenomenal experience with PBR.  Every event that I have attended has been very well organized and professional.  The staff is very personable and helpful, and I would certainly recommend PBR events to anyone interested in playing baseball at the next level.
