Corning Vs. Horseheads: Game Recap

Dan Cevette
Director, New York

Corning 11 - Horseheads 0

Section 4 witnessed two of its top teams do battle on a chilly spring day in the Southern-Tier of New York. No. 13 Horseheads (Undefeated going into last night’s contest) has shown early on this season they are the team to beat in section 4 – stacked with a potent high school lineup and 2-3 strong arms on the mound. Horseheads would send out ace 2016, RHP, Jake Burlingame. Corning would roll out their ace 2016, LHP, Danny Madden.

Corning’s offense found its stride against a quality arm in Burlingame pounding out 11 hits scoring 11 runs, including a grand slam by catcher Greg Speroni – line-drive missile over the left-field fence. Danny Madden helped his own cause driving in three runs, Nate Gorges would add two RBI’s on the day as well in an impressive Corning attack.

The real story of the game was Danny Madden and his dominance over a very strong Horseheads lineup. Madden would go a complete game (98 pitches – 61 strikes) striking out seven Raiders, giving up no-hits, no runs. Madden, who is Ranked No. 16 in the 2016 class, showed at times why his ceiling on the mound is incredibly high. Read a more in-depth report on Madden next Monday in our updated New York Scout Blog.

"We played a great all-around game today against an extremely tough Horseheads team, said Head Coach Pete Graham. It was nice to put all facets of our game together today. The offense clicked and the defense made nice plays behind our starting pitcher. Danny Maddens no-hit performance was impressive. He threw the ball well, keeping a solid Horseheads lineup off balance all day. I'm proud of him.  It's a great moment for him to remember."
