Day 1: Jr. East-West Battle

Pool A: TEAM VALLE 8 DIAMOND PRO-SOJA 5

Drew Treviso came out of the bullpen and allowed one run over four-plus as Team Valle used a big inning to erase an early deficit for a win in the opener. Treviso stopped Diamond Pro in its tracks and then allowed just three hits. Using a tight breaking ball, the right-hander fanned five and walked two for the victory. Jose Morales and Torin Wilcox both connected on two-run singles, and Team Valle sent 14 to the plate in a decisive eight-run fourth inning. Trailing by four, Jake Carroll started the frame with a one-out infield single. Jason Nau walked, and Sean Bracken loaded the bases with a bunt single. After Anthony Bonacci brought home the first run of the stanza with an RBI base on balls, Treviso popped a bunt that dropped inside the first baseline to score another run. Jorge Oropeza doubled and scored before the end of the inning.

Jordan Maher paced DP to an early lead with a bases-clearing double in the second as the Hurricanes grabbed a 4-0 advantage. Maher plated Ben HarrisonSam Leonardo and Anthony Rhoides with a two-out shot to left center. Daniel Tirabassi capped the frame with a run-scoring single to right center. Rhoides started and held Team Valle without a hit through three innings before running into the trouble in the fourth. The left-hander set down six on punch outs and walked five. Casey Saucke worked a scoreless fifth in relief. The right-hander needed just seven pitches to fan one batter and get a pair of ground balls to retire the side in order. Danny Stapleton had an RBI sacrifice fly in the sixth for DP. Josh VanBramer collected two hits in the contest.

POOL B: DIAMOND PRO-ECKLER 5 ACADEMY STARS 3

Steven Kemp hurled four-plus, and Diamond Pro put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in two separate innings to take the win in the opener. Kemp allowed one run on four hits and retired eight straight from the end of the first through the fourth. Tyler Staffieri drove in the eventual game-winning run with a two-out double in the fifth. Staffieri plated Danny Guichard and Zach Wilkins to give DP a 5-0 lead. Xavier Morales and Noah Horn spotted the Hurricanes a two-run edge with back-to-back RBI singles in the third. DP took advantage of three free passes and a wild pitch to make it a 3-0 game in the fourth. AJ Burruano got the Stars on the board when he brought home Andrew Stablewski with a one-out single in the fifth. Burruano brought in another with an RBI groundout in the seventh. Cole Anastasia added a run with a sacrifice fly. Stablewski crossed the plate twice in the game.
