MLB Draft: Where Did They Come From in NY?

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director, NY

The Major League Baseball amateur draft concluded on Wednesday with, by our counts, 36 players that attended high school in New York getting drafted. Nine of those players were 2017 high school players across the state. We broke it down to 8 geographical regions to dissect the draft. List below is based on where the player attended HS not where they were born or where they attended college.

Regional Breakdown

New York City: 12 total (6 HS)
Long Island: 11 total (2 HS)
Western NY: 5 total (1 HS)...includes Rochester/Buffalo and areas south & west
Hudson Valley: 5 total
Capitol Region: 2 total
Southern Tier: 1 total
Central NY: 0
Adirondacks: 0

NOTE: Not all information is 100% accurate posted by MLB concerning "Draft State" as we have found a few mistakes ourselves. Out of the 9 high school players drafted, 4 have attended PBR-NY events since 2014.
