Tyler Mandel, 3B, Scarsdale HS, NY (2017)

Mandel 5-foot-10 198-pounds with a big bodied frame, strong lower half. At 3B he gets to the ball well and fields in the middle of his body, out in front. His transfer is clean and quick to a long arm action, high ¾ slot at 74 mph getting on top of the ball and his back side through. At the plate his weight is shifted back on his right foot, hands relaxed over his back knee. On the pitch he uses a short stride for timing driving his hands powerfully, inside the ball with long extension, high finish with an 86 mph exit velocity.

Analysis:
Mandel already shows the bat speed and early power to make some noise on the recruiting circuit. With very quick hands that stay inside the ball and exit velocity already in the upper 80's, for his position there's a lot to like. At 5-foot-10, 198-pounds the size and frame are there for Mandel to become a gap to gap power guy. How hard he works in the weight room will be up to him, but I really like his style and attitude about the game and his desire to become special. With 3B having the longest throw on the infield, increased arm strength is a must for the 2017 graduate. It will be fun to watch his development over the rest of his HS career.
