Preseason All-Long Island: OF Analysis From Feb. 20th

15 days ago PBR NY held its first ever Long Island/NYC Preseason Invite Only. The response was positive, the talent was heavy, and the smoke is finally starting to settle. Let's take a look at the OF scouting reports from Feb. 20th. In no specific order.

Quentin Holmes, OF, Msgr. McClancy Memorial HS, NY (2017)
Holmes a 6-foot-2 175-pound outfielder who has a tall athletic lean showed impressive foot work while playing the ball off to his glove side and attacking the ball aggressively.  Quick exchange and gets through the ball well.  Arm velocity was 84 mph, that tops the charts with outfielders.  Arm-action is down and long with an over the top arm-slot, smooth free and easy.  Quick and above average hand speed.  Next level projection.  At the plate he stands wide hands above the ear and loads back to the pitch. Stride is short and balanced.  Bat stays level through the zone as his hands work inside the ball.  Hips and shoulders stay closed and get’s full extension on the ball. Finishes well over the shoulder with great power and balance.  Exit velocity 87mph and home to first time 3.97 which was the best at our event.

Anthony Piccolino, OF, Iona Prep HS, NY (2017)
Piccolino stands 5-foot-11, 165-pounds with a very athletic build. Slightly open stance, hands relaxed. On the the pitch he loads back, strides back to even, short compact swing, barrel gets slightly inclined through contact, long extension, high finish. Exit velocity off a tee up to 84 mph. From the OF he charges the ball hard, fields in front of his body, clean funnel and exchange, uses a slight crow-hop, arm action is short and clean, throws from a high-3/4 slot, 83 mph arm strength with carry. He ran a 4.19 home-to-first showing next-level athleticism.

Peter Theodorellis, OF, Commack HS, NY (2017)
Theodorellis stands 5-foot-7, 150-pounds with a stronger build. At the plate he starts with his weight shifted back, hands low. On the pitch he loads his hands back up, strides for timing, hips shift forward. Path to the ball is short, barrel is mostly level through contact, shoulder height finish. 80 mph exit velocity off a tee. From the OF he moves hard towards the ball, fields the ball off his glove-side, uses momentum to gather himself, clean quick transfer, long-smooth arm action, 84 mph arm strength with carry. He ran a 4.35 home-to-first-time.

Nicky Manesis, OF/C, Shoreham Wading River HS, NY, (2017)
Manesis a 6-foot-2 175-pound outfielder/catcher shows a strong athletic lean build.  In the outfield he plays the ball off his glove side, attacks the ball and finished through his target.  Arm-action down and long and over the top arm-slot.  Ball carries well as his arm velocity was between 71-74mph.  Behind the plate Manesis steps towards his target and brings the ball directly to his ear.  Arm velocity of 70mph.  Shows soft and smooth hands behind the plate and shows to be an average blocker.  Pop time was a 2.19.  At the plate Nicky has an open stance with his hands above his ear.  Loads back with the pitch with a short and balanced stride.  Bat path is quick and short to the ball.  Bat stays level through the hitting zone.  Hands stay inside the ball as his shoulder and hips stay closed.  Gets full extension through the ball as he finishes over his shoulder with great balance.  Exit velocity 84mph. Home to first time 4.53.

Joseph Rosselli, OF, Ward Melville HS, NY, (2017)
Rosselli stands in at 5-foot-9 170-pounds with athletic lean with strong lower half.  In the field he plays the ball to his glove side and attacks the ball aggressively.  Quick and clean exchange and gets through the ball well.  Arm velocity 81mph with a clean arm-action.  A little long arm action and throws from over the top arm-slot.  Great carry on the ball. At the plate he stands closed with his hands above his ears with a slight wrap of the body.  Little to no stride at all but well balanced.  Bat path is smooth and through the zone keeping his hands inside.  Shoulders and hips stay closed with goo extension on the ball.  Exit velocity 82mph, and his home to first time was 4.46. Projected to be a fine college outfielder.

Connor Picascio, OF, Sachem High School East, NY, (2016)
Picascio stands in 5-foot-10 165-pounds with a slender athletic build.  In the field he plays the ball off to his glove side.  Tends to wait back on the ball but has a clean transfer.  Gets through the ball well with an long arm-action and an arm-slot of mid 3/4. Gets some carry on the ball with an arm velocity of 81mph which at our last event threw 77mph.  At the plate he stands upright and narrow with a little sway back and forth.  Hands are close to his ear and loads back with the pitch.  Bat path is short and quick to the ball and stays level through contact.  Hands stay inside the ball and shoulder and hips stay closed. Finishes well over the shoulder with great balance.  Exit velocity is 78mph and his home to first time 4.19.

Harrison Kravis, OF, South Side HS, NY, (2016)
Kravis stands in at 5-foot-9 150-pound with a slender build fields the ball out in front of his body.  Choppy exchange but gets through the ball well.  Arm-action is down and long with an over the top arm-slot.  Has some carry on the ball.  Arm velocity is 72mph.  At the plate he stands upright and narrow.  Hands are low and loads back with the pitch.  Bat path is short and quick to the ball, bat stays level through the zone.   Shoulders and hips stay closed and he attacks the ball well with good extension.  Finishes over the shoulder with great balance. Exit velocity 76mph, and home to first time is 4.56.

Justin Stromski, OF, Eastport South Manor HS, NY (2016)
Justin who stands in at 6-foot-1 165-pounds tall and slender fields the ball off to his glove side but tends to wait back on it.  After release he recoils his body.  Arm-action is long and his arm-slot is low ¾.  Little carry on the ball. Arm velocity is 81 mph.  At the plate he stands upright and narrow hands just under his ears.  Clean rhythm with no stride.  Hands drop down to pitch.  Bats slightly inclined at contact.  Hands cast out over the plate.  Hips and shoulders open early while his finish is up and over the shoulder with balance.  Exit velocity 82mph and home to first time was an impressive 4.1.

Christian Sartori, OF, Mount Sinai HS, NY (2017)
Christian stands in 5-foot-9 175-pound with a short athletic build.  In the field he plays the ball in front of his body and waits on the ball.  Choppy exchange.  Arm-slot is long with a mid 3/4 arm-slot.  Little carry on the ball with an arm velocity of 62 mph.  At the plate he stands in with a closed stance, hands are low and loads straight back to the catcher.  Stride is short and balanced.   Bat path is long and slow through the zone creating a slight incline at contact.  Finish is over the shoulder and balanced.  Exit velocity 69mph and home to first time 4.66.

Bryan Selternreich, OF, Hauppauge HS, NY (2017)
Bryan stands in at 5-foot-8 160-pound short with a strong lower half.  While fielding he plays the ball off to his glove side but wait back on the ball.  Tends to recoil after his throw.  Arm-action is short and arm-slot is over the top.  He does get carry on his ball with an arm velocity of 75mph.  At the plate he stands closed off with his hands held low.  Load causes a front arm-bar which makes his bat long through the zone.  Shoulders and hips fly open early creating little drive.  Shows some extension through the ball.  Exit velocity 75mph.  home to first time 4.31.

William McCarrick, OF, Shoreham Wading River HS, NY (2016)
William who stands in 6-foot 153-pounds shows a tall slender build.  While fielding he plays the ball off to the glove side of his body.  Exchange could be quicker.  Arm action is choppy and jerky with a low ¾ arm-slot.  Little carry on the ball with an arm velocity of 74mph. At the plate he stands narrow and upright with his hands above his ear.  Loads straight back to the catcher with little to no stride at all.  Bat path drops down on pitch and is slightly inclined at contact.  Shoulders and hips fly open early but show’s some extension.  Finish is strong and over the shoulder with goo balance.  Exit velocity 71mph, and home to first time 4.59.

Gregory Tan, C/OF, St. Dominic HS, NY (2016)
Tan stands in at 5-foot-9 175-pounds.  Behind the plate he shows decent footwork as he steps towards his target and has an over the top arm slot.  Arm velocity was 72mph and his transfer from glove to hand was clean, brings ball back to his ear.  Glove finishes of to his side and under his armpit.  Pop times ranged between 2.07-2.09.  Hands are good, could be softer, blocking was impressive as he moves side to side with ease.  In the outfield he plays the ball off to his glove side and attacks the ball aggressively.  Clean exchange and gets through the ball well.  Arm-action is down and short and over the top with carry on the ball.  Arm velocity 74mph.  At the plate Tan stands closed off and his hands low.  Stride is short and balanced quick to the ball, shoulders and hips leak early with little extension through the ball.  Finish is clean and over the shoulder.  Exit velocity was 63mph and home to first time was 4.56 seconds.

Brian Donnelly, OF/1B, Valley Stream South HS, NY (2016)
Donnelly a 6-foot 175-pound outfielder/ first basemen with a strong lower half and stocky built.  In the infield he’s aggressive while fielding the ball straight on.  Lets the ball get deep but keeps his glove out in front.  Hands are choppy at times and his arm action is short.  Arm slot is mid ¾ with little carry on the ball.  Arm velocity was 73mph.  In the outfield he plays the ball off to his glove side and attacks the ball aggressively.  Arm action is down and long with a high ¾ arm slot.  Good carry on the ball as his arm velocity was 75mph.  At the plate his stance is wide, hands above the ear and relaxed.  Loads straight back to the catcher and shows a short balanced stride.  Bat patch is short and quick but slightly inclined at contact.  Hands cast out a little over the plate.  Shoulders and hips stay closed and he gets full extension through the ball.  Finish is over the shoulder and balanced.  Exit velocity was 78mph. Home to first was a 4.4.  

Michael Donegan, OF, Shoreham Wading River HS, NY (2016)
Donegan stands 5-foot-11, 160-pounds with a slender build. At the plate he starts with a relaxed approach, slightly open stance. Short stride on the pitch, loads back, slight arm-bar, hands drop some, path is long, barrel is slightly inclined through the zone, high finish. From the OF he fields the ball off his glove-side, uses momentum with a small crow-hop, longer arm action, throws from a high-3/4 arm slot 65 mph arm strength.

Chris Nugent, OF, Mt. Sinai HS, NY (2015)
Nugent stands a strong 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Bats from the left-side. He starts wide, back elbow up, athletic approach. On the pitch he loads back, small stride, short compact path to the ball, barrel is slightly inclined through the zone, great extension, high finish. Shows a balanced swing. From the OF he fields the ball off to his glove-side, quick clean transfer, back towards 2B arm action, throws from a high-3/4, 79 mph arm strength.
