Name:

MLB Organization:
Baltimore Orioles (4th round draft pick 2013)
Position: C

PBR New York sat down with former Amherst Central HS star Johan Heim for a question and answer session.

PBR: How did you prepare for your first full season in the Baltimore Orioles organization?

Heim: This year I started early I only took a couple of weeks off then I got back into hitting and throwing in early November. I stated lifting three days a week with a personal trainer and put ten pounds of muscle on this off season. My body is prepared to hold up for the professional baseball grind with all my preparation.

PBR:
What were the biggest adjustments you had to make from HS to the Professional level?

Heim: Out of HS what was tough for me was seeing higher velocities at the plate. During HS we saw low velocity arms and when I got to pro ball I had to make that adjustment fast. I also had to get my body and mind prepared to play baseball day in and day out.

PBR: What was your first spring training like?

Heim: My first spring training went very well. I came to Florida early in January and I started to work with our teams Strength and Conditioning coaches, and just getting outside to throw and hit really helped a lot. Every day we had early work and most days seemed the same with workouts in the morning, lunch, then played a game.

PBR: How do you keep yourself busy after you leave the ballpark?

Heim: Other than playing ball me and some guy friends go golfing or hit the beach, so there is always something to do. We even go to the movies to pass the time.

“Jonah is doing very well” said Brian Graham, Minor League Farm Director for the Baltimore Orioles. He has made very good strides from the end of Instructional League, both offensively and defensively. He's young and has a lot of room to grow physically. His natural maturity and added strength allowed him to compete much better offensively this Spring. He's a great make-up kid and is going to be a fun player to watch develop.”
