Saratoga 5 - Shenendehowa 1

Two state heavy weights battled it out yesterday in front of a decent crowd at East Side Rec in Saratoga. After a 3-0 loss earlier in the year to Shen, The Saratoga Blue Streaks (No. 11) welcomed the Plainsmen (No. 3), in hopes of evening up the series.  When it was all said and done, Saratoga Springs did just that.

Great defense, timely hitting, and an excellent performance by 2016 RHP Danny Hobbs, gave Toga the 5-1 win in front of their home crowd, and improved them to 14-3 on the season.  The loss for Shen is their first in league play.
Danny Hobbs was excellent all day, giving up only 4 hits, striking out 6, with fastballs in the mid to upper 80's. Hid only blemish was in the second inning, when Matt Alverson scored on a Frankie Pizzo sacrifice fly.
Toga received the majority of their runs in the 3rd and 4th inning.with RBI hits from Brandan Coffey and Zach Stacey.
For Shen, Brad Pearson had two hits, and Josh Hayner added a double.
Pbr's take
Shen starting pitcher Bryan Warzek wasn't as sharp as we've seen him in the past.  In 3 and a 1/3 he gave up 5 hits, 3 walks, and hit a batter.  Saratoga is the best hitting team in the section, Danny Hobbs has now emerged as a force on the mound, their entire arsenal is legit.  They are going to be tough to beat in sectionals, the only question... Can they beat Ian Anderson?  A potential Anderson vs. Hobbs matchup could be in the works here, and a potential must see game.
