Jacob Schlegel, C, Eden HS, NY (2015)

Schlegel stands 5-foot-11 167-pounds and has a lean frame. At the plate he has a wide approach, small leg lift before the swing for timing. His bat path is inclined through the zone with a balanced high quick finish. His exit velocity was 81 mph. Behind the plate he throws from a mid-3/4 slot,  pop time at 2.03, signs of better times to come. He needs to work on his release and getting his feet more square towards second. Arm works clean and quick hand speed, arm strength was 70 mph which can easily be improved on.

Analysis:

Schlegel still needs some development behind the plate, but the signs are there. He shows an athletic, lean frame to build on this winter. His arm strength is just HS-average, but his pop times are solid hovering the 2.0 magic number. With a clear emphasis this winter on arm strength and foot-speed, there is no reason Schlegel can't open some eyes this spring. A clear candidate for our Jan. 3 winter-combine in Orchard Park, NY to kick the new year off right.
