Scouting Notes on Collins
Justin Collins, RHP/SS, Williamsville East HS, NY (2015)
Collins stands 6-foot-2 170-pounds with a projectable frame. He throws from an over the top arm slot with a fastball topping 81 mph. His curveball sits 62-64 with 11/5 shape. Mechanically he uses a long arm action and gets out over his front knee well on the finish. At the plate he sets up with his hands high, balanced with weight back. He drops his hands on the pitch and has a bat path slightly inclined through the zone. His exit velocity off a tee was 77 mph. From the MIF he fields the ball out in front and bent over, uses a over the top slot at 79 mph. He uses a straight back arm action but clean and gets through his throws. He ran 7.32 60 yard dash.

Analysis:
With such a projectable body it's hard to not like his upside on the field. The right program, that believes in their development, should have no trouble looking at Collins as a potential guy. On the mound he's still green, arm is long, fastball sits 78-79 topping 81 mph but there is more to project. A big winter in the weight room doing the proper things could have a significant impact on his game.
