Canton paces DII Blatter, Veniskey's blast and DII Sova has a "Sleeper"

DII Blatter 4 DII DiStaffen 2
Korey Canton (Greece Odyssey) hurled three shutout innings and sparked the offense as DII Blatter continued its winning ways. Canton started and scattered three hits while setting down five on strikes without issuing a walk.  The right-hander threw 37 pitches – 31 for strikes and retired seven of eight from the end of the first to third inning. Canton rapped a one-out single back through the box and eventually scored on a wild pitch for a 2-1 edge in the fourth. He singled, stole two bases and crossed the plate on a Ross Janezic (School of the Arts) sacrifice fly or an insurance run in the sixth. Christian Blatter (McQuaid) finished 1-for-2 and drove in two runs including the eventual game winner when he brought home Lucas Sulimowicz (Greece Athena) with an RBI groundout. Adam Brawn (Rush-Henrietta) was 2-for-2 on the night. Owen Lyons (Geneseo) worked an inning of relief for the win. DII Maynard 6 DII Sova 4
Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) highlighted a six-run fourth with a two-run triple as DII Maynard erased an early deficit. Veniskey’s blast into the right-center gap drove in Zachery Geist (Greece Athena) and Anthony Bonacci (Greece Athena). Bonacci sparked the outburst when he plated Ryan Coughlin (Greece Athena) and Alan Michael LeFrois (Churchville-Chili). Jaden Nelomes (Churchville-Chili) reached on a fielder’ choice and eventually came home on a Kyle Egan (Eastridge) sacrifice fly. Patrick Xander (McQuaid) retired ix of seven to pick up the save. The southpaw struck out one, walked one allowed just one ball out of the infield. Bobby Sellers (Rush Henrietta) struck out five over two innings of work on the mound. Jadon Masucci (Webster Thomas) started and struck out five over three innings for the win. If At First You Don’t Succeed
Victor Alongi
(Greece Athena) nearly slowed the DII Maynard rally when Bonnacci’s line drive glanced off his glove as he was lunging at third base for the stop. Alongi made sure later in the contest with a leaping grab at second base.

Other Leather Gems
Ross Janezic (School of the Arts) made it look as routine as in and out. The DII Blatter shortstop went to a knee to take away a hit in the hole between third and short. The next batter hit a tapper just to the third base side of pitcher’s mound which Janezic cleanly fielded on the run and made the throw across the diamond. Gage Ziehl (Penfield) deftly navigated foul territory for a pop fly which he plucked away from the protective screen in front of the third-base dugout. Jake Canfield (Webster Thomas) took away a sure hit with a backhand over the bag at third. Lucas Sulimowicz (Greece Athena), Ben Sousa (Honeoye Falls-Lima) and Jake Veniskey (Webster Thomas) all threw out would be base stealers from behind the plate.
