Ward Melville 9 - Patchouge Medford 0

(6-0) Ward Melville took on (6-1) Patchouge Medford in there second game of a three game set.  Both are top teams on Long Island as they battle to see who will be in first place in league 1. Ben Brown for Ward Melville took on powerhouse Pat-Med this afternoon.  The Sophomore through a complete game three hitter striking out four and walking one.  Brown seemed to be in control the whole game as he held Pat-Med scoreless all seven innings.

In the top of the first Brown has an easy 1-2-3 inning only throwing eight pitches.  In the bottom of the first Ward Melville’s offense exploded putting up five runs.  Lead off hitter Nick Vitale sets the tone with a lead off solo Home Run.  Next batter Brandon Lee steps up and is drilled in the arm.  Top Ranked Prospect Joe Flynn is also hit by a pitch putting runners at first and second with no one out.   Jeff Towle steps up and rips a double in the gap scoring Lee.  Ward Melville up 2-0.  With runners on second and third and still no one out Troy Gehrig Davern steps up and rips a double down the line scoring two more runs making it 4-0.  Pat-Meds Amure strikes out the next hitter.  With two outs Nicholas Cervone steps up and hits a double scoring Davern.  Ward Melville takes a 5-0 lead. 

In the top of the second Brown gets the lead off hitter to fly out, then lets up a base hit to Codispoti.  Brown then walks the next batter making it first and second with one out.  An error on the catcher the runners advance and its now 2nd and 3rd one out.  Next batter rips a ball back at Brown, turns to throw to third to get the runner who was off the bag resulting in now a bases loaded situation.  Ben upset by his mistake strikes the next hitter out and then gets the next batter to ground out to second.  Brown gets out of the jam.  Score still 5-0.  Ward Melville adds some more runs in the Bottom of the 2nd Nick Vitale steps up already with a homer in the game leads off with a double.   Brandon Lee strikes out but an error on the catcher allows Lee to reach first.  First and Third with no outs.  Joe Flynn steps up and hits a sac fly scoring Vitale making the score 6-0.  Lee advances to second base.  Ward Melville’s coach Lou Petrucci calls a hit and run as Jeff Towle rips a line drive up the middle scoring Lee.  7-0 Ward Melville. 

Top of the third Ciufo gets a one out single but Ben Brown retires the next two hitters to keep Pat Med at zero.  Bottom Third Joseph Rosselli leads of and lines out to center field.  Amure gets out of the inning with no runs scored.  Heading into the bottom of the 6th inning Brandon Lee leads off with a single.  Next hitter is hit as Ward Melville has two guys on.  Jeff Towel with a sac fly moving Lee to third base.  With runners on first and third Troy Gehrig Davern steps up and rips a double scoring Lee and advancing Flynn to third base.  Score not 8-0.  Rosselli with and Infield Single scores Flynn making it 9-0.  Heading into the top of the 7th Ben Brown is still in control as he retires the side and lifts Ward Melville over Patchouge Medford.
