2014 Underclass Games: Complete Player Evaluations for the 2017/18 Class



The 2014 Underclass Games was the largest showcase to date for PBR Ohio, with 205 participants and we would like to thank all the players, parents, and The Ohio State University for a great showcase.

Aaron Levy, 2B/SS, Princeton, 2017

6-foot-1, 150 pound projectable frame. The infielder works well squaring up the baseball and staying down on the ball. His hands are soft and throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 76 mph across the diamond. Left-handed hitter that uses a leg kick to load and shows good bat speed with a flat bat path. His top exit velocity is 85 mph and was 4.5 home to first.

Alexander Cook, 3B/C, Firestone, 2017

5-foot-11, 245 pound strong build. From the infield he has soft hands and throws from a high ¾ slot with a top velocity of 58 mph across the diamond. From behind the plate his exchange is ok and stands up to quick and throws from a high ¾ slot that opens up on his throw with top velocity of 56 mph. Right-handed hitter that starts his hands high and has a wide stance with good balance. He throws his hands at the ball and his barrel is in and out of the zone. His top exit velocity is 68 mph and was 6.0 home to first.

Austin Eifrid, 2B/OF, Lexington, 2017

5-foot-9, 140 pound small frame build. He shows life in his body with good soft hands at second base. Once he gets stronger he will be able to cover more ground laterally and his arm strength should increase. Right-handed hitter that starts open to close with a high leg kick for his load. His swing is slightly uphill with a high finish. His top exit velocity was 71.

Bailey Morris, RHP/OF, Wheelersburg, 2017

6-foot-4, 190 pound projectable body. From the outfield, he fields the ball inside his body and throws from an over the top slot at a top velocity at 72 mph. Right-handed hitter starts open to close with a high elbow and high hands. He drops his hands to start his swing and has an exit velocity at 79 mph. On the mound the big body righty throws from an over the top slot.  His fastball sits 68-71 mph with some sink. His curveball is at 62 mph with a big 12/6 break. Has tendency to slow his arm down on his change at 62-64 mph. The pause in his top of his delivery loses his momentum when going to the plate.  

Brennen Martin, OF/INF, Lakota West, 2017

5-foot-11, 165 pound athletic build. From the infield he moves around really well and projects more as a second baseman. He does a good job squaring the ball up and throws from a ¾ slot with top velocity of 69 mph across the diamond. From the outfield he does a good job getting to the ball, but doesn’t use a crow hop to create momentum on his throw. He throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 78 mph. Right-handed hitter starts open to square and starts with his hands back. He uses a short compact swing with a short finish and a top exit velocity of 74 mph and is 4.62 home to first.

Cade Mottice, 2B/OF, Jackson, 2017

5-foot-10, 147 pound frame. From the infield he projects as a second baseman. He needs to be more aggressive in attacking the baseball and work through his throw. He throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 72 mph. Right-handed hitter starts in a good balance position with a high elbow. He has a short compact swing with a small load and flat swing and a top exit velocity of 77 mph. He is a 4.8 home to first. 

Christian Ramos, 1B/3B, Saint Ignatius, 2017

6-foot-1, 230 pound big strong build. The first baseman moves well around the bag for his age. He has soft hands and throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 70 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter stands tall with an open stance that squares up. His barrel stays in the zone and shows power to his pull side with a top exit velocity of 77 mph and 5.00 home to first.     

Christopher Fryer, INF/OF, Medina, 2017

6-foot, 211 pound big body frame. From third base he shows soft hand and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a loose arm from a ¾ slot that is 78 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets back to squared. He starts his hands high and shows power to the pull side with a top exit velocity of 84 mph. On the mound he opens up his front side which causes him to struggle pitching to glove side. His fastball from a ¾ slot sits at 79-81 with some arm side run. His curveball ranges from 62-67 mph and able to throw it for a strike. He throw a hard change-up at 71 with decent arm speed. 

Clay Edler, C/INF, Unioto, 2017

5-foot-10, 150 pound frame. From a crouch he has a good clean exchange with good accuracy. He needs to have better direction to second base after receiving the pitch which will increase his arm strength. He throws from a ¾ slot with pop times between 2.14-2.19 with a top velocity at 72 mph from behind the dish. Right-handed hitter has a short swing with a long stride which transfers his weight on his front foot. Spray hitter that has a high finish on his swing and a top exit velocity of 68 mph and is 4.69 home to first.

Clayton Lucki, SS/3B, Firelands, 2017

5-foot-11, 160 pound body frame. From the infield he squares up the ball moves good laterally. Clayton throws from an accurate high ¾ slot. Right-handed hitter with good athletic load. Slightly uphill swing that produces some power to his pull side. His top exit velocity was 70 mph and was 4.76 home to first.

Collin Hohman, C/1B, Trinity, 2017

5-foot-11, 165 pound athletic frame. From an athletic crouch he moves well and falls off a bit on his exchange and throw to second base. He throws with a lot of effort from a ¾ slot with pop times between 2.19-2.29 and a top velocity of 73 mph. Right-handed hitter that is spread out with an open stance that stays open. He has a load that keeps his hands back with a high finish on his swing. A top exit velocity of 75 mph and was 4.7 home to first. 

Connor McMurry, RHP, Summit Country Day, 2017

6-foot, 190 pound stocky build. The right-hander with an over top arm action closes off his lower half a bit at foot strike. It is an easy arm with his fastball sits 81-84 with good down angle. His curveball is between 68-70 mph with a 11-to-5 break and good depth. He throws a hard change-up at 76 with good sink.

Dawson Nason, SS/2B, Perkins, 2017

5-foot-9, 180 pound stocky frame. From the infield he projects more as a third baseman with his footwork. Does a good job fielding the ball out in front of his body. Has an easy arm action from a ¾ slot and a top velocity across the diamond of 75 mph. Right-handed hitter with a good balance and a good load that produces some power to his pull side. Has a top exit velocity of 81 mph and home to first in 4.7. On the mound he starts with a simple lift and short stride that is online, but doesn’t finish his pitch. He throws from a high ¾ slot with is fastball sitting 76-78 mph. His curveball has decent depth at 65-68 mph and his changeup being his second best pitch at 72-74 with some sink.

Dylan Davis, OF, Moeller, 2017

5-foot-8, 170 pound stocky build. From the outfield he does a good job coming working through the baseball and uses a crop hop to get in line for his throw. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a top velocity of 73 mph. Right-handed hitter starts open and uses his load to get to squared. He has an uphill swing that shows power to his pull side. His top exit velocity is 7.09 and was 5.09 home to first.

Evan Jenkins, RHP/3B, Archbishop McNicholas, 2017

6-foot-3, 165 pound projectable frame. The righty stands tall on his delivery and closes himself off on his landing which causes him to leave the ball up at times and pitches well to arm side. He throws from a high ¾ slot with his fastball sitting 80-82. He slows him arm down on his curveball at 64-68 mph and struggled with command of it. Evan threw a good change with good life at 72 mph.

Gavin Ogan, 3B/1B, Unioto, 2017

6-foot-3, 170-pound tall body frame. The third-baseman has a tendency to play from his heels and would benefit from being more aggressive playing through the baseball. He uses a slinging type arm action that produces 74 mph arm strength. Offensively, he uses a simple swing, starting with a balanced set up, no hands trigger, used both fields during his BP round. He generated a top exit velocity of 80 mph and ran a 4.88 down the line to first base.

Grant Lugo, OF/C, Centerville, 2017

5-foot-9, 155 pound athletic build. From the outfield he lets the ball get into his body, but creates momentum with a good crow hop. He throws from high ¾ slot with a top velocity of 82 mph. Right-handed hitter that starts open and stays slightly open. He uses a leg kick to load and keeps his hands inside the ball. Does a good job spraying the ball and a top exit velocity of 75 mph and 4.44 home to first. From behind the dish he has a good exchange with pop times between 2.29 and top velocity of 67 mph home to second.

Griffin Hunt, RHP/3B, St. Ignatius, 2017

6-foot-1, 175 pound projectable frame. Projects as a third baseman that shows good footwork and hand for his age. He throws from an easy ¾ slot with top velocity of 81 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter stands straight up then produce a good load to an athletic set up. He cast his hands a bit with a flat swing and top exit velocity of 77 mph and a home to first of 4.79. On the mound the righty has a slow delivery that throws over top and fall off a bit on his finish. His fastball sits 79-80 with some down angle. His curveball is more of a slurve at 70 mph and a changeup at 70-72 with good arm speed.

Hunt Doepel, LHP/1B, Waynesville, 2017

5-foot-10, 166 pound athletic frame. At first base he moves well around the bag and uses soft hands and a good arm action. He throws from a short arm high ¾ slot and a top velocity of 70 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts open and uses a double toe tap to get to squared. He has an uphill bat path with a top exit velocity of 79 mph and 4.94 home to first. On the mound the southpaw has a slow tempo delivery with good direction. He throws from a high ¾ slot and hides the ball well. His fastball sits 75-77 mph with some cut. He has good command of his curveball that sits 63-65 mph with good shape and a 1-to-7 break. His changeup is 69 mph with some fade. He projects better as a pitcher at this point. 

Hunter Biddle, 3B/RHP, Lexington, 2017

6-foot, 160 pound frame. From third base he is real aggressive playing through the baseball and moves well to left. He throws from a loose ¾ slot. Right-handed hitter with a leg kick to load. His bat path is flat and stays in the zone with a top exit velocity of 78 mph and home to first at 4.6. On the mound he comes to a good balance point with a fastball that sits 72-73 mph. His curveball is 61-63 with a big 11-to-5 break and a changeup that sits 69-70.

Jack Vezdos, 3B/RHP, CHCA, 2017

5-foot-10, 185 pound stocky frame. From the infield he projects as a third baseman. He stays back on the baseball with a stiff glove. He has an easy arm action from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 77 mph. Right-handed hitter that uses no stride and a good load to generate bat speed and a top exit velocity of 78 mph. He is short to the ball and his bat path needs to stay in the zone longer. On the mound the righty uses a simple lift then land closed which makes him throw across his body. 

Jacob Mottice, OF/1B, Jackson, 2017

5-foot-10, 155 pound athletic frame. From the outfield he does a good job coming through the baseball and gets on line with his crow hop. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a top velocity of 74 mph. Left-handed hitter starts open then gets to squared. He uses a toe tap to load and a uphill swing path that sprays the ball all over the field. His top exit velocity is 75 mph and was a 4.4 home to first.

Jaqui VanMeter, RHP, Licking Valley, 2017

6-foot, 260 pound big body frame. The righty really pounds the zone and does a great job attacking hitters. He flies open a bit on his lower half. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a quick arm and a fastball sits 83-85 mph with some arm side run. He throws a late breaking slider at 75-77 mph with a good feel of it. He also shows a swing and miss cutter at 79 mph. I really like the way this guy goes after hitters. 

Jared Telecky, 1B/3B, St. John’s Jesuit, 2017

6-foot-1, 190 pound athletic frame. From the infield his glove is a little stiff, but fields the ball pretty clean. He throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 67 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter with loose hands and a long stride that dives into the ball. He shows good bat speed and a top exit velocity of 88 mph and is 4.9 home to first. 

Joseph Bubonics, INF/C, Solon, 2017

5-foot-9, 155 pound athletic frame. He projects more has a second baseman. His hands work good and gathers the ball into his body. He really moves well around the infield and covers ground going left and right. Throws from a low ¾ slot with a top velocity across the infield at 75 mph. From a crouch he has a good exchange and does a good job getting his feet in line. His pop times ranged 2.18-2.23 and 71 mph behind the dish. Right-handed hitter that starts with his hands low and a slightly open stance. His swing is short and stays through the zone with a top exit velocity of 82 mph and home to first at 4.61.

Josh Stover, RHP/SS, Westerville North, 2017

6-foot-2, 160 pound projectable frame. From the infield he does a good job getting to the ball for his age. His glove is a tad stiff and throws from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 77 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter with spread out stance and a good load. He cast his hands and the bat path is uphill with a high finish. His top exit velocity is 78 mph and is 5.01 home to first. On the mound he projects with good balance in his delivery and long arm swing. He lands slightly closes and falls off a bit. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a fastball sitting 78-79 mph. His curveball is slow developing at 64-65 mph with 11-to-5 break. He throws his changeup with good arm speed at 67 mph. 

Keyaunte Jones, SS/3B, St. John’s Jesuit, 2017

5-foot-7, 170 pound athletic frame. From the infield he has soft hands that fields the ball into his body. He throws from a high ¾ slot and his hands and feet work well together. Right-handed hitter that starts with an open stance and gets to squared. Uses a high leg kick to load and has an uphill swing with some power to pull side. He shows good bat speed with a top exit velocity of 85 mph and is 4.8 home to first. 

Logan Doenges, LHP/1B, Avon, 2017

6-foot-1, 175 pound projectable frame. At first base he moves well around the bag with soft hands and keep the ball in front of his body. He has an easy arm action from a ¾ slot with a top velocity of 81 mph across the diamond. Right-handed hitter that starts open and stays open. Stands tall with a lot of movement before his swing. Small leg kick with a flat swing and a top exit velocity of 76 mph and home to first in 5 flat. On the mound he has a simple lift with an over the top arm action and a head tilt that makes him fall off a bit. His fastball has some downhill angle at 78 mph.  His curveball has a big 12-to-6 break at 68-69 mph and slows down on his changeup at 64 mph.

Matt Dockman, LHP, Bishop Watterson, 2017

6-foot-2 165 pound left hander with a body that really projects. His fastball is thrown through a high 3/4 slot, and sits 80-82 mph with some arm side run. He throws a curveball with a 1/7 break at 63 mph with good depth. Dockman also throws a slider at 72-73 mph with good late break. His changeup has good arm speed at 71-72 mph. He really stands tall on his delivery and has feel of all four pitches. 

Mitch Robinson, RHP, Loveland, 2017

6-foot-2, 175 pound projectable frame. The righty has a quick delivery that throws across his body which gives him some deception. He throws a from a high ¾ slot with his fastball sitting 74-77 mph. His curveball has some good shape at 62 mph with 11-to-5 break and throws a slider with late break at 66-68 mph. He throws his changeup at 69 mph with some fade to it. 

Steven McNeal, RHP/INF, Lima Senior, 2017

5-foot-9, 160 pound athletic build. From the infield he plays real aggressive coming to get the baseball. Fields the ball into his body and projects more as a second baseman. He throws from an easy ¾ slot with a top velocity of 67 mph across the diamond. Left-handed hitter that uses a toe tap as his load. Uphill swing with a top exit velocity of 66 mph and a home to first 4.93. On the mound he is a bit mechanical in his delivery that closes himself off a bit. He has an easy arm from a high ¾ slot with fastball that sits 64-68 mph. His curveball has a big loopy shape to it with a 11-to-5 break and can throw it for a strike at a wide range between 52-58 mph.

Thomas House, RHP/OF, Ross, 2017

5-foot-11, 145 pound lanky frame. The right hander tucks at his balance point to create deception. He closes himself off which cause him difficulties getting to his glove side. He comes from over the top right by his ear with an easy arm and some down angle at 78-80 mph. His curveball has a big loopy shape that has some depth at 61-62 mph. He throws a hard change with plus arm speed at 73 mph. If he can stay taller on his back side he will create even more down angle. 

Timothy Morris, 2B/SS, Walsh Jesuit, 2017

6-foot, 125 pound frame. He projects as a second baseman that really was aggressive coming to get the baseball. He throws from a ¾ slot. Right-handed hitter that starts open and stays slightly open. He drops his hands a bit to get his swing started with a high finish. 

Will Kramer, Catcher/1B, Fairfield, 2017

6-foot-2, 180 pound strong build. From first base he moves well for his size and is a big target at first. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a top velocity of 66 mph. From behind the plate he uses a wide frame and slower exchange with a long arm action. His top velocity was 66 mph with pop times of 2.44-2.57. The right-handed hitter is balanced with a small leg kick to load. He has a flat swing with a top exit velocity of 77 mph and was 4.8 home to first. 

Zachary McDonough, C/3B, St. Xavier, 2017

5-foot-11, 165 pound athletic frame. From behind the plate he has a good exchange and has good direction on his throw to second. He throws from a high ¾ slot with a pop time of 2.14 and a top velocity of 72 mph. Right-handed hitter that starts open and gets to squared. He has good balance in his stance, little load, and a good bat path with a high finish. His top exit velocity off a tee was 78 mph and was 5.0 home to first.


2014 Underclass Games 2018 Participants


AJ Petersen, SS/2B, Lakota West, 2018

5-foot-6, 130 pound athletic build for his age. He is a quick twitch infielder that projects right now as a second baseman. He throws from a low ¾ slot and gets thru the ball well and shows decent range for his age. Right-handed hitter that starts open to close with a flat swing and a low finish which keeps his barrel in the zone. His top exit velocity was 72 mph and was 4.5 home to first.

Avery Baker, 1B/3B, Lancaster, 2018

6-foot-3, 170 pound projectable body. At first base he is a big target and moves well for his size and his age. He throws from an over the top arm slot with an infield velocity of 71 mph. Right-handed hitter that starts open to close with a good load. He cast his hands out a bit with a low finish which allows his barrel to stay in the zone. His top exit velocity was 74 mph.

Cameron Summer, C/3B, United Local, 2018

5-foot-9, 140 pound athletic build. From the crouch he shows good footwork for his age. He throws from a ¾ slot that opens up his front side a bit. Left-handed hitter that has a wide stance and a strong low base. He starts with a good load and with his strength for his size he has power potential. His top exit velocity was 60 mph and 5.06 home to first.

Jacob Pickerel, 3B/RHP, Eastwood, 2018

5-foot-11, 185 pound athletic frame. The third baseman moved well for his age and showed good actions and a decent arm from a ¾ slot. His top velocity across the diamond was 74 mph. Right-handed hitter has a simple approach that starts open to squared up. He transfers his weight on his front foot and shows an uphill swing with a top exit velocity of  77 mph. His home to first was 4.87.

Mitchell Smith, C/RHP, Pickerington North, 2018

5-foot-10, 160 pound athletic body frame. From the crouch he has good footwork getting in line with his throw. He throws from a ¾ slot and release by his ear. Right-handed hitter with a quiet approach and a flat swing that stays in the zone. He has a one handed high finish with his swing. His top exit velocity was at 71 mph and was 4.72 home to first.

Preston Eisnaugle, 2B/OF, Jonathan Alder, 2018

5-foot-10, 150 pound frame. Preston projects more as a second baseman and really does a good job fielding the ball out in front of his body. He throws from a low ¾ slot with little effort in his throw. Left-handed hitter that starts with his hands high and with a high finish. His stance starts open to close and gets out of the box well.
