With three sophomores already committed in the Class of 2014, it is clear that the recruiting process is experiencing an accelerated process unseen before in Ohio.

While a few top sophomores have already given their verbal pledge, Gahanna Lincoln’s Evan White is just starting the process.

White, who is currently ranked as the 5th rated prospect in Ohio’s class of 2014, was a standout performer at this winter’s Pre-Season Underclass Showcase.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound left-handed prospect shows the ability and athleticism to play multiple positions at the next level.

Reflecting on his talents, White said, “My best tool is my ability to play three positions and my instincts for the game.”

His scouting report from the event notes:

Very nice projectable 6-foot-3, 185-pound body. Smooth actions and shows baseball sense. Runs 5.08 40-yard dash (concrete surface). Switch-hitter with upright stance. Good load and controlled upper-cut. Short into the zone (76 bat velocity off the tee) with long finish. Squares barrel on ball with good lower half. Power potential with increased strength. Good defensive ability. Shows good feet, hands, and lateral range at 1B. Could easily be a corner outfielder as well. On the hill, he has good delivery with moderate arm through ¾ arm slot. Fastball is 81-84 with some life; slurvy bite breaker (68-69) and feel for change (69-71). Solid D-1 two-way player.

Winter workouts have come and gone, and White is now focused on the upcoming season.

“Personally, I want to have a quality year in the field, on the mound and especially at the plate.  As a team, we want to compete for the league championship and make another run at a district title.”

It won’t be an easy road for Gahanna with tough conference opponents such as Pickerington Central, Pickerington North, and Grove City.

Still, White has some other games marked on his calendar.

“I'm definitely looking forward to playing conference games but I'm looking forward to playing Lakota West and Cincinnati Elder because they're both quality programs and will be challenges for our team.”

This summer, White will be playing for the 16U Columbus Cobras along with several other top players in the Class of 2014, including Kyle Casserly, Justin Childers, Alec McCurry, and Jarrett Peters.
