2016 OHSAA Tournament: Road To Huntington Park - Division IV State Final Recap

****Rankings are based on PBR Ohio's Final Team Power Rankings

COLUMBUS - No. 2 ranked Newark Catholic won its 8th state championship and 6th since 2002 with a 5-4 win over No. 10 Triad in a wild roller coaster type of a game.

Newark Catholic jumped out the a 4-0 lead after one and held on for the win.

NC capitalized on some sloppy play from Triad in the 1st as the Cardinal had an error, HBP, passed ball and a wild pitch in the 4-run first.

The Green Wave's Tanner Marmie came in relief for NC, going four strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits while striking out three.

Erhard paced the Green Wave attack, going 1-2 with two runs scored while walking twice.

The Green Wave also set an OHSAA record with 12 stolen bases on the night in a wet and sloppy D-IV State Title game.

Triad's Trent McIntyre paced the Cardinals attack with two hits and three RBIs.
