2016 Spring Team Preview: Coldwater Cavaliers

Team Name: Coldwater Cavaliers
Head Coach: Brian Harlamert, 392-117 (19th season)
Division: III
2015 Record: 23-5
Conference Record: MAC, 7-2
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 6/4

Historical Accomplishments:

  • 6 State Championships in school history (’83, ’84, ’87, ’90, ’92, ’14)
  • 28 MAC championships

2016 Team Strengths: We are just blessed to have an athletic, experienced senior class that have won a lot of games and competed at a high level in all sports throughout the years.

2016 Team Weaknesses: Our starting pitchers will be in bigger roles this season with the departure of Derek Thobe (Ohio Dominican). The same pitchers are our key defensive players, so we'll be adjusting our defense every game depending on who is pitching.

Malave BettingerCoach Outlook: Assistant coach Toby Siefring "We are returning a lot of experienced baseball players, including Toledo commit Malave Bettinger (pictured right) and Sinclair CC commits Aaron Harlamert and Kyle McKibben. We are expecting to ride those three on the mound as well as senior Quarterback Jack Hemmelgarn and 6'4 junior RHP Dylan Thobe. Those five along with starting CF Kraig Schoenherr (7 HR last spring) and athletic LF Chris "Petey" Post provide a solid nucleus to compete in 2016. The 2016 schedule is difficult as always, with additions of CHCA, Bryan, Maumee to go along with the usual competition, including Vandalia Butler, Piqua, most of the WBL and the always competitive MAC."

PBR Outlook: Coldwater baseball. There really isn't much more that needs to be said. The Cavaliers play a high level of baseball and the 2016 team should be no different. After a state championship in baseball in 2013, the Cavaliers were upset during their tournament run in 2014. The fact the most of those kids are back and they already have another state championship in football, I see this Cavaliers team as a hungry group that will be ranked in the top 5 for Division III in the Preseason Team Power Rankings.
