2016 Spring Team Preview: Grove City Greyhounds

With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: Grove City Greyhounds

Team Name: Grove City Greyhounds
Head Coach: Ryan Alexander
Division: I
2015 Record: 19-10
Conference Record: OCC- Ohio, 13-1
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 6

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Work ethic
  • Year older
  • Defense
  • Deep staff

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Injuries (Mark Rader ACL this winter) 
  • New guys in key positions

Coach Outlook: Excited about this group. Extremely hard workers and the 2017 junior class has been amazing all off-season. We will need to step up on the mound and need a few new guys to have great years. 

Top Returning Players:

  • Blake Griffith, 1B/RHP, 2016, 6'4” 210, R/R, Oakland University commit, captain, First Team All District as a junior, .395 BA, 8 2B, 27 RBI
  • Dan Rutan, LHP/OF, 2017, 6'2” 180, L/L, 5 wins as a sophomore on the mound, .375 BA
  • Nick Erwin, SS/C, 2018, 6'1” 170, R/R, full time starter at shortstop as a freshman after tenth game, great talent, best I've seen at understanding the game at his age, .340 BA, only 4 errors at SS
  • Hayden Cartt, OF/P, 2017, 6'2” 200, R/R, letter-winner last season
  • Jared Warner, C/3B, R/R, 2018, 6'0” 210, started 15 games at catcher as a freshman, .333 BA, 1 HR, 5 2B 
  • Ethan Cormany, RHP, 2016, 6'1” 190, captain, will be a three year starting pitcher, 8 wins in last two years on the mound
  • Cole Antle, OF, 2017
  • AJ Peter, RHP, 2017
