2016 Spring Team Preview: Howland Tigers

With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: Howland Tigers

Team Name: Howland Tigers

Division: I
2015 Record: 13-13
Conference Record: AAC Red, 4th place
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 6/3

2016 Team Strengths:

  • Starting pitching
  • Speed

2016 Team Weaknesses:

  • Scoring runs

Coach Outlook: Pitching will be strong. Several lefthanders. All of the staff will have good velocity. There are two senior pitchers with the remaining staff being sophomores and juniors. We have ten good pitchers. Our infield will be solid with a combination of seniors and underclassmen. We have solid catchers. Good outfield arms. Our team should compete in the AAC.   

Top Returning Players:

  • Craig Lewis, OF/P, 2016, 5’10” 165, L/L, very fast, great power, Seton Hill commit
  • Josh Shver, LHP, 2016, 6’1”, low-80s fastball, late bloomer
  • Mike Massucci, RHP, 2017, low-80s fastball, 4.0 GPA, quick to the plate
  • Zac Campbell, 2B, 2017, L/R, very fast, good hands, power is coming, works hard and is growing, led Youngstown B League in hitting
  • Nick Badanjek, C, 2017, good arm, quick release, good receiver, has pop at the plate
  • Jacob Harsany, RHP, 2017, 6’3” and still growing, good curve and low-80s fastball
  • Nathan Leventis, OF/LHP, 2017, fast, getting stronger, bat has come a long way, great range in the outfield
  • Tyler Lumadue, 3B/SS, 2016, contact hitter, solid defensively
  • Zach Nites, DH, 2016, returning leading hitter

Top Underclassmen:

  • Dylan Keller, RHP, 2018, 5’9”, low-80s fastball, potential DI prospect if he continues progressing
  • Jackson Deemer, OF/LHP, 2018, 5’9”, good fastball, good power at the plate
  • Frank Rappach, SS/RHP, 2018, fast, hard worker, has great range and arm
  • Hayden Parker, OF/RHP, 2018, hard thrower, good power, good outfielder
