With the 2016 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting February 1st, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2016 Spring Team Preview: St. Mary’s Memorial Roughriders

Team Name: St. Mary’s Memorial Roughriders
Head Coach: Jeff Dieringer
Division: II
2015 Record: 17-6
Conference Record: Western Buckeye League, 8-1
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/3

2016 Team Strengths:

• Starting pitching
• Experience in key positions

2016 Team Weaknesses:

• Replacing 11 graduating seniors
• Experienced hitters

Coach Outlook: When healthy, I expect our pitching to carry the load for us this season. With three starters coming back on the mound, we'll need consistency on the mound while our new hitters compete to fill the voids left by 11 graduating seniors. I can't remember a time when the Western Buckeye League has been stronger from a pitching standpoint than it appears early this year. 

Top Returning Players:

• Nathan Wilker, P/INF/OF, SR, L/R, four year starter, All-WBL and/or District awards last three years, #1 pitcher since sophomore season
• Derek Jay, P/OF/1B, JR, R/R, #2 pitcher last season, commands three pitches well 
• Chase Roop, P/OF, SR, R/R, very solid arm, has excellent command of three pitches, solid wins last season over Coldwater, Ft. Recovery and Lima Bath
• Dustin Howell, SS/P, JR, R/R, started as sophomore on league championship team with 11 seniors, excellent defensive shortstop and very consistent hitter
