With the 2017 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting in Mid-January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2017 Spring Team Preview: Geneva Eagles

Team Name: Geneva
Head Coach: Jared Sziber
Division: II
2016 Record: 11-12
Conference Record: CVC, 7-7
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 3/5

2017 Team Strengths:

  • Starting Pitching
  • Pitching Depth
  • Defense
  • Athleticism

2017 Team Weaknesses:

  • Lineup Inexperience
  • Lack Of Power
  • Leadership

Coach Outlook: "We are bringing back our top 5 pitchers from last season, so our pitching staff should be very deep and talented. We are replacing the majority of our lineup from last year, so there will be a lot of new faces in the lineup. The pitching and defense should be good, so depending on how our lineup does will dictate what kind of season we could have"

PBR Outlook: Pitching will be the name of the game for coach Sziber and the Eagles. With the five top arms from a year ago returning, the Eagles should compete with anyone in 2017.

  • Kaleb Smothers, P/3B. Junior, 6'3 200lbs, R/R. 2 year starter. #1 Pitcher since freshmen year. 43 In, 5-2 record. 1.53 ERA. 47 K. 9BB.
  • Nick Stoltz, SS/P Sophomore, 5'11 165lbs, R/R 1 year starter. SS/ #2 pitcher. .295 BA, .400 OBP, 15 SB. 29 Inngs, 2-1 ,1 sv, 27 K. 11 BB. 2.95 ERA.
  • Seth Scoville, INF/P Junior. 5'11 150lbs, R/R 2 year starter. .450 OBP, .275 BA. 20 runs.
  • Teagen Shaughnessy, C/OF, 5'6 175. R/R three year starter. Will split time behind the plate and in the out field. Very good athlete, puts a lot of pressure on the defense with speed. Good pop for size.

  • Tyler Cerjan, P/1B. Junior 5'10 165. L/L 1 year starter. Very good left handed pitcher. Good command of 4 pitches, very good movement on all as well.
