2017 Spring Team Preview: Riverside Pirates

Team Name: Riverside (DeGraff)
Head Coach: Derrick Purtee
Division: IV
2016 Record: 20-8
Conference Record: Northwest Central Conference, 9-3
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 4/3

2017 Team Strengths:

  • Athleticism
  • Defense

2017 Team Weaknesses:

  • Pitching Depth
  • Inexperience at Key Positions

Coach Outlook: “We return four everyday starters (two of which will be 4-year starters): Senior C Hunter Kreglow, Senior INF/P Tyler Sanford, Junior All State OF Caleb Stevens, and Junior UTL Trey Lane. They will provide our leadership. We are expecting to compete in our league and sectional, but some unproven players will have to step up and fill in key roles in order for us to meet our goals. We have a challenging non-league schedule (games against Bellefontaine, Ben Logan, Anna, Fort Loramie, Newton, Greenon, New Bremen, West Liberty, Springfield Northeastern, and Northwestern) and the NWCC should be very competitive with Lehman, Lima Perry, Upper Scioto Valley and Ridgemont all returning numerous starters. Our goal is to play solid defense and to use our athleticism to put pressure on opposing defenses.”

Top Returning Players:

  • Hunter Kreglow, C, SR, 6-3/205, 4-Year Starter
  • Tyler Sanford, P/INF, SR, 6-2/180, 4-Year Starter

  • Trey Lane, UTL, JR, 6-1/180, 3-Year Starter
