2017 Spring Team Preview: Upper Arlington Golden Bears

With the 2017 spring season right around the corner, PBR Ohio is eagerly anticipating bringing the Buckeye state the best high school coverage throughout the entire state.

Starting in Mid-January, we began releasing team previews for teams across the state, leading into the Preseason All-State Teams as well as the Preseason State Rankings.

2017 Spring Team Preview: Upper Arlington Golden Bears

Team Name: Upper Arlington
Head Coach: Tom Marker
Division: I
2016 Record: 17-11
Conference Record: Ohio Capital Conference - Central Division, 8-6
Returning Starters/Pitchers: 5/4

2017 Team Strengths:

  • Pitching
  • Defense

2017 Team Weaknesses:

  • Scoring Runs

Jack HendrixCoach Outlook: "Pitching will be young, but experienced with several guys competing for roles in the starting rotation. The schedule will prepare us for our goals come tournament time as we play Moeller, Mass Jackson, Mason, St, Ignatius, Defiance, Watterson, Olentangy Orange, Olentangy Liberty, Gahanna, Grove City, Dublin Scioto and Bryan in non-conference play."

PBR Outlook: The Golden Bears and head coach Tom Marker have a difficult schedule that should make his talented squad a team to watch come tournament time.

Top Returning Players:

  • Jack Hendrix, RHP, 2017, 6'4", 215, R/R, Captain, #1 arm a year ago lost to injury, Lincoln Trail CC Commit
  • Sammy Sass, C, 2019, 6'2", 180, R/R, Started catcher as a frosh
  • Brandon Horsley, OF, 2018, 5'10", 175, L/L, Three year starter

  • Dakota DeStefano, P/OF/1B, 2018, 5'10", 190, L/R, Tons of pop and may see action on the mound, as well.

  • Ethan Hammerberg, P/1B, 6'4", 235, L/R
  • Ben Krimm, P, 6'4", 185, R/R
  • Tommy Dilz, P/OF/1B, 6'2", 190, L/L, Will hit in the middle of our lineup. Saw a lot of action as a frosh.
