Countdown to Signing Day: Akron's 2013 Recruiting Class

With the fall signing period starting on November 14th, PBR Ohio will be taking a look at the number of players from Ohio headed to a college program within the state’s borders. Each day, we will break down a school's class player-by-player. Today, we start at the beginning of the alphabet with the University of Akron.

THE UNIVERSITY AKRON

Nottingham

This will be the second official recruiting class for Coach Rembielak and recruiting coordinator Fred Worth. But, instead of starting in July, the Zips staff have had a full year under their belt and time to identify needs in their roster. In 2013, the Zips brought in a large class, which didn't leave much money for the 2013 class.

In the early signing period, Akron is expecting to receive two of its three letters of intents from local area products, North Canton Hoover infielder Dom Iero and Massillon Jackson right-handed pitcher Jonny Nottingham (pictured right). Coach Rick Rembielak is clearly trying to keep Stark and Summit County’s besttalent close to home and reestablish local relationships that will help Akron compete with nearby Kent State.

In addition to Iero and Nottingham, Rembielak also secured a commitment from Dublin Jerome’s Masashi Sakamoto, who is an exceptional athlete with a live arm and potential on the mound.
