Inside the Recruitment: '15 C Patrick Lavelle commits to Heidelberg

Patrick Lavelle, C, Hilliard Davidson HS, Class of 2015

PBR: Why did you choose Heidelberg?

Lavelle: I chose Heidelberg because of its great academics, outstanding baseball program, and its excellent coaching staff. I wanted to surround myself with players and coaches that had the belief of winning baseball championships.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Lavelle: University of Missouri at St. Louis (UMSL), Bluffton, Thiel and Wittenberg.

PBR: With Coach Fitzgerald becoming the new Head Coach at the end of the season.  How does it feel to be a part of his first recruiting class?

Lavelle: It feels great. I am so honored to be part of the Heidelberg baseball program. Coach Fitzgerald’s energy, vision and winning attitude is so contagious that I can’t wait to start playing under his leadership.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Lavelle: I play for the Columbus Sharks 18U tournament travel program. My most memorable experience was when we played in the Hamersville tournament in Cincinnati. Because of rain delays, all of our games got pushed back. We ended up playing a game at 12:45 am and finished at 3:00 am. With our next game scheduled for 7:00 am the next morning, some of the team slept at the ballpark. We eventually ended up winning the tournament.

PBR:  What person has the great impact on your baseball career and why?

Lavelle: My parents. They taught me what hard work, discipline, setting and achieving goals means.

PBR: What were your stats this spring?

Lavelle: My spring stats were unavailable but for summer travel ball I batted .439, SLG .579, RISP .458, 17 singles, 8 doubles, 15 rbi's, 2 strikeouts

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced?

Lavelle: Jarod Yoakam. He’s a great pitcher and is now playing at the University of Cincinnati.
