Jake Ruby, OF, Bishop Hartley, Class of 2017

PBR: Why did you choose Ohio State?

Ruby: I chose Ohio State because it is one of the top schools in the nation.  They will provide the best academics and athletics in the country for me.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Ruby:  I was considering West Virginia, Georgia, UNC and Cincinnati.

PBR: Where did Coach Beals first see you?  How did your relationship develop with them?

Ruby:  Coach Beals first saw me in a showcase at SWOBAT in Cincinnati.  Coach Beals and I got in contact soon after and stayed in touch throughout the summer.

PBR: You performed extremely well in some of the premier PBR events this summer.  How did that help your recruiting process?

Ruby: There was a ton of scouts at most of the PBR events I played in.  It got me exposure so I could show the coaches what I have to offer for their team.

PBR: You are only a junior, how important was it to get your commitment out of the way so early?  Are you finished with the recruiting process?

Ruby: Committing to Ohio State this early was very important.  I no longer have to worry about what school I will attend.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what is your most memorable experience?

Ruby: This past summer I played for the Cincy Flames and my most memorable experience is playing in the Perfect Game tournament in Georgia.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Ruby: I really did not know what to expect of the recruiting process.  Playing up was a great decision, the Cincy Flames exposed me to many recruiting opportunities.  After a couple of visits to Ohio State, I knew that this was where I wanted to play and study.

PBR: Who has had the biggest impact on you as a baseball player?

Ruby:  My dad has the biggest impact on me.  He played college baseball and has taught me everything I know.

PBR: What were your stats this spring season?

Ruby:  I only played 16 games this spring because of a pulled muscle.  My summer coaches evaluate us on quality at bats.  My QAB this summer was 61%.
