Ohio Insider: Fall Prospect Program - Week 2 at Denison (Teams 1-4)





We would like to thank all who participated in the Central Ohio Fall Prospect Program at Denison. This was an opportunity for the class of 2017 and 2018 squads to be put on college radars.

Top Performers Team 1

  • Jacob Saffel (North Canton Hoover, 2017) sat 73-76 mph on the mound. The right handed hurler showed a smooth delivery and struck out two in his innings of work.
  • Southpaw Austin Burchfield (Gahanna Lincoln, 2018) punched out one in his innings of work while sitting 65-69 mph. Uses short arm action that hides the ball well from the hitter; also showed a deceptive pickoff move to first. 
  • Bradley Wolfe (Fairfield Union, 2017) again had a strong performance for Team 1. The right handed pitcher struck out 2 of 3 and sat between 83-84 mph on the mound. He also added two hits at the plate, one of which being a late inning RBI triple in Game 2. 
  • 2018 Boardman prospect Evan Knaus recorded three total hits; two singles and a triple. Also popped between 2.23-2.37 on throws down to second.
  • Also adding notable hits in game action were Owen Rose (Olentangy Liberty, 2018), and Colton Workman (Licking Valley, 2018)

Pitcher Velo's Team 1:

Top Performers Team 3:

  • Team 3’s solid pitching and bats led them again to take two wins from their opponent.
  • 2017 Springboro product Ryan Little had an overall impressive day at the plate. Little totaled three knocks, most notably his RBI double and RBI triple in Game 2. Registered a 5.28 with a round, home to first time.
  • Jacob Roth (Norwalk, 2018) made an outstanding play ranging up the middle and nailing the runner at first on an off balanced throw. He also added two singles, and a triple at the dish to help Team 3 sweep the series.
  • RHP George Lucas (Milford, 2017) gave Team 3 confidence as he took the mound Game 1. Working through three innings, Lucas punched out five hitters while sitting 74-78 mph. Fastball displays good arm-side run.
  • Bailey Armentrout (Kenton Ridge, 2018) showed strong on the mound for Team 3 as well. Worked quick on the mound and kept hitters off balance, striking out three in two innings of work. Breaking ball was an effective pitch as he showed good feel at 66-69 mph.
  • Catcher Quinn Gray (Westerville, 2017) recorded a 4.57 home to first time, and popped a 2.36 on throws down to second base.

Top Performers Team 2:

  • Starting pitcher Collin Skufca (Wooster, 2017) showed well on the mound featuring a 75-79 fastball that offered some sinking action at times. He also mixed in an 11/5 63-67 mph breaking ball. Struck out four batters throughout his outing on the mound.
  • Jacob Tyran (New Albany, 2018) showed off the glove in game action. Tyran made a smooth backhand play at deep short and showed arm strength nailing the runner out at first. He also added a single and two RBI's. 
  • 2017 Adam Stotler (Bishop Watterson) had a day at the dish. Barreling in just about every at bat, he added 4 singles to his teams performance.
  • Noah Bauman (Fairfield, 2018) had a strong day much alike Stotler's. Bauman adding four base knocks as well, while also adding two RBI's to his totals.
  • Adding some power to Team 2's lineup was Jon Hillberry (Fairfield Union, 2018). Hillberry's most notable at bat was when he drove a deep double into the left centerfield gap. He totaled 2 hits and 3 RBIs on the day.

  • Austin Slatzer, SS/2B, Watkins Memorial, 2017: FB 79-84, CB 70-71
  • Austin Hare, RHP/OF, Bishop Watterson, 2017: FB 72-75, CB 63-66

Top Performers Team 4:

  • Team 4 came out ready to play after taking two losses last weekend. Runs were aplenty as they totaled 17 between the two games. 
  • On the mound, right handed pitcher Brenden Bridenthal offered a strong performance striking out two in his outing. Bridenthal displays a quick arm while sitting between 79-83 mph. Breaking ball is sharp and proved tough on hitters at 62-66 mph.
  • One of the leaders in the hitting category for Team 4 with Josh Brobst (Bishop Watterson, 2018). Totaled three hits; one of which being a triple, and also added an RBI. Brosbt barreled the ball in many of his at bats while also showing well in the outfield tracking down, and taking good routes to balls.  
  • 2018 2B/SS Jason Stahlman (Twinsburg) also had a day at the dish. Totaling three hits and plating two home on RBI's. Stahlman showed some extra juice in his bat on the two doubles he hit during game action.
  • Catcher Johnny Smith (Lebanon, 2018) popped a 2.19 time on throws down to second. Smith added with his bat as well stroking a two RBI triple and also adding a single to his day.
  • Plenty of others added RBI hits on the day. Those included, Mitchell Wehrung (Little Miami, 2018), Carson Ward (Bloom-Carroll, 2017), Brenden Bridenthal (West Holmes, 2018), and Benjamin Paarlberg (Middletown Madison, 2018). 

Pitchers Velo Team 4:
