Ohio Spotlight Game: #3 Moeller vs #26 Grove City

COLUMBUS- The Crusaders of Moeller made the trip down to Columbus for a match-up between two Top 30 D-I teams in the state. Moeller took both games of the double-header by scores of 9-3 and 12-1 (5 innings).

A simple look at the box score may indicate a large disparity in talent, but that was not the case. As we’ve come to expect Moeller has a lineup full of highly ranked prospects and talent all over the field. However, Grove City also has a talented lineup full of committed and uncommitted prospects that have the ability to play at the next level.

The story of both of these ball games was cleanliness.

Moeller was much more sure-handed on the defensive side, rarely giving the Greyhounds extra opportunities. Moeller struck the ball well and consistently took advantage of Grove City miscues defensively that eventually led to two comfortable victories.

Top Performers Game 1
  • Taylor Hopkins: 3-3 at the plate with two doubles. Looked very smooth at second base.
  • Christian Bault: 2-3 at the plate with a homerun and two RBIs.
  • Nicholas Erwin: Only recorded one hit but struck the ball well in three of his at bats and was very impressive defensively as shortstop.
  • Erice Devore: 2-3 at the plate.
  • Colton Bauer: 1-3 at the plate with a home run.
Top Performers Game 2
  • Cameron Swanger: 2-4 at the plate with four RBIs.
  • Tyler McDonough: 2-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI
  • Austin Beeching: Picked up the win on the mound, throwing just 61 pitches in five innings. Beeching filled up the zone, throwing over 70% strikes and only allowing four hits.
