Ohio Spotlight Game: Akron SVSM vs Gilmour Academy

Gates Mills – In a matchup of talented D-II and D-III clubs, the D-II Irish of St. Vincent St. Mary traveled to D-III Gilmour Academy to take on the Lancers.

In weather more suitable for football, Gilmour picked up their seventh win of the season, by the score of 9-3.

The Gilmour Academy offense scored seven runs in the fourth inning putting this game away for good.

The fourth inning saw 13 batters come to the plate. The Lancers recorded just three hits in the inning but were helped out by two errors, two walks and a hit batter. Junior infielder Jackson Clark and junior outfielder Chris Gideon each drove in two runs during the inning.

Gilmour senior pitcher Mike Murphy went the distance for the Lancers allowing three hits and one earned run. He did a nice job of locating a three pitch mix and kept the Irish offense off balance. He struck out two batters picking up his third win of the year.

St. Vincent St. Mary was led by junior outfielder/first baseman Brandon Bischof. Bischof, uncommitted and ranked 69th in the junior class recorded two singles on the day and was also hit by a pitch. He scored two of the Irish three runs and also stole two bases.

With the win Gilmour Academy improved their record to 7-4-1 and return to action on Thursday April 28th, 2016 as they host 23rd ranked Trinity Trojans.  

With the loss St. Vincent St. Mary fall to 7-7-1 and return to action on Wednesday April 27th, 2016 as they host Lake.
