PBR Spotlight Game: #2 Walsh Jesuit vs #42 Amherst Steele

In a tightly contested game, Walsh Jesuit held off Amherst Steele 4-3.

No. 2 Ranked Walsh Jesuit received solid starting pitching as they have all year, this time it came from Missouri commit Ty Shoaff (Walsh Jesuit, 2015).

Appearing to be without his best stuff, Shoaff showed his mental toughness pitching his best with what he had on this day. The senior left-hander threw six innings against a feisty Amherst Steele team giving up three runs (two earned), scattering seven hits, walking one, hitting one batter, while striking out five.

Shoaff’s counterpart, Antonio Serrano (Amherst Steele, 2015) had the tougher assignment, trying to keep one of the top offensive lineups not only in the state but also ranked in the country. Serrano also threw six very strong innings giving up four runs (two earned) on only three hits, walking three, hitting one batter, and did not record a strikeout.

It was the Walsh Jesuit Warriors striking first in the top of the first inning with two walks and a sac bunt from the top part of the lineup. A sacrifice fly coming off the bat from left-fielder Mac Shinaberry (Walsh Jesuit, 2016) would put Walsh Jesuit up two runs right away.

The Warriors were not done, plating another run in the third inning it was Shinaberry again delivering another screaming sacrifice fly to the Amherst Steele right-fielder to make it a 3-0 ball game.

The Amherst Steele Comet bats would put together a multiple run inning of their own in the fourth inning.

A bunt hit from third-baseman Brad Hagerich (Amherst Steele, 2015) would get the inning started. back to back RBI singles would follow, first from left-fielder Jordan Williams (Amherst Steele, 2015) followed by Joe Masters (Amherst Steele, 2016) to make it a 3-2 game.

Walsh Jesuit scored one additional run in the fifth inning when catcher Connor Regan (Walsh Jesuit, 2015) hit a sacrifice fly to right-field.

Amherst would also score one more run in the sixth inning with an infield hit RBI from shortstop Hunter Cassidy (Amherst, 2018).

Walsh would then call on Dominic Canzone (Walsh Jesuit, 2016) to close down the seventh and he did just that, preserving the win for the Warriors.
