PBR Spotlight Game: #23 Ayersville vs #8 Tinora

DEFIANCE – When two rivals match up, you expect to have an entertaining game and that was the case between Green Meadows Conference rivals #23 Ayersville and host #8 Tinora. This visiting Pilots came away the 6-5 winner over the Rams, giving head coach Chad Donsbach his first win against Tinora in his six years with Ayersville.

With the score locked at 5-5 in the 7th, the Pilots had two outs and the top of the lineup coming to the plate.

Jacob Kahle RBI 2B vs TinoraAyersville's one-two hitters, Jake Miller and Jacob Kahle (pictured right) roped back-to-back two out doubles to give the Pilots a 6-5 lead that Kahle preserved in the bottom half of the frame.

The Pilots jumped out to a 5-0 lead, scoring one in the first and four in the third.

In the 1st, 2016 Kahle reached via a fielder's choice, later scoring thanks to an error and wild pitch to put the Pilots on top 1-0.

In the 3rd, Kahle started the frame reaching base on a hit-by-pitch. 2017 OF Dauson Dales and C/P Jack Goonan drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.

2016 OF/LHP Eric Engel laced an RBI single to left scoring Kahle. 2016 INF Tyler Brown drove two in on a single to left that was misplayed, allowing Dales and Goonan to score.

Senior Jared Sanchez put Ayersville on top 5-0 on an RBI groundout, scoring Engel.

The Rams clawed back, scoring three innings in a row, eventually tying the game at 5-5.

2016 catcher Reid Anders started the bottom of the 3rd with a double to left-center. E.J. Kissel (Lincoln Trail commit) and 2016 Mathias Grube drew back-to-back walks to load the bases.

2016 INF/P Brevin Renollet scored Anders on a sacrifice fly.

With both Kissel and Grube running, 2016 INF Dakota Stark ripped a ground shot at Ayersville's shortstop, which was misplayed allowing Kissel to score and cut the deficit to 5-2.

2018 Jacob Drewes (brother of Derek Drewes, BGSU) scored the Rams' run in the 4th. The right-handed hitting shortstop laced a line drive single (2nd hit of the game), later scoring on a wild pitch.

The Rams tied the game in the 5th. Stark reached base on an error, bringing to the plate 6-foot-6 first baseman Logan Bailey (2016). The smooth swinging giant blasted a two-run bomb to left, knotting the game at 5-5.Logan Bailey HR vs Ayersville

These are two of the more talented teams in Division IV within the state. Ayersville has a few solid pitchers and a top of the lineup that can go up against most if not all D-IV teams while Tinora is strong 1-9 throughout their lineup. However, after losing most of last year's pitchers, the Rams need to find more consistency on the mound and hopes to do just that once tournament time comes around (reached state four years in a row, winning in 2014).

Top Performances on the day

+ Jacob Kahle: Picked up the win on the mound, going the distance allowing five runs on seven hits and five walks while striking out four. At the plate, the left-handed hitter had the game-winning double, a walk and a HBP. Two-way player that is hoping to gain velo as the season goes on.

Jake Miller vs Tinora+ Jake Miller (pictured right): The speedy sophomore shortstop reached base four times, two singles, a double and on an error. Miller also scored the winning run in the 7th. A young and fast infielder to follow over the next couple years.

+ Dauson Dales: The athletic outfielder drew two walks, had a hard hit single and scored a run. An athlete in any division. Three-sport athlete that is an interesting follow.

+ Jack Goonan: The big-bodied catcher reached base four times, two singles, a walk and a HBP. Solid two-way prospect with most potential on the mound.

+ Logan Bailey: The 6-foot-6 first baseman had a home run, single, two RBIs, scored a run and had a stolen base. Intriguing follow.

Jacob Drewes vs Ayersville+ Jacob Drewes (pictured right): The athletic freshman had two singles. The hardest hit ball of his on the day ended as a line out. Will be one to keep eye on.

+ E.J. Kissel: The Lincoln Trail commit had a single, two walks, scored a run and had a stolen base. Coming off shoulder surgery, this was his first game of the season.

+ Mathias Grube: Physically strong OF/P. After missing all of last season with wrist surgery, it just wasn't his day on the mound against Ayersville but at the plate had a single and walked twice.
