PBR Spotlight Game: Chardon vs Eastlake North

EASTLAKE ??? With weather more suited for a football game, the Eastlake North Rangers hosted the Chardon Hilltoppers in a Premier Athletic Conference game. Despite the snow, sleet and heavy winds, Eastlake North came out on top by a score of 6-2.

The Ranger offense struck first scoring a single run in the bottom of inning number one. An RBI groundout by junior catcher Dillon Rohm plated classmate Kenny Uzarevic

The Hilltoppers wasted no time answering back with two runs of their own in the top of the second inning. Senior outfielder Danny Komentz single home Nick Mysyk; and Komentz would later score due to a defensive miscue by the Rangers.

These two runs however would be the last for Chardon.

Eastlake North starting pitcher Anthony Ward Jr. (pictured right) would shut the Chardon offense down the remaining five innings. The senior left-hander finished the game allowing zero earned runs on just two hits. He struck out a total of eight batters ??? with six of those coming in the final five innings. Ward got stronger as the game went on and the Hilltopper offense had no answer for him.

With the win Ward improved to 2-2 on the year.

The Ranger offense came alive in the fifth and sixth innings scoring five runs to put the game out of reach. Junior outfielder Charlie Finucan provided the big blow with a two out ??? two run single in the fifth inning.

With the win Eastlake North improved to 7-7 and return to action on April 23rd as they host Geneva High School.

With the loss Chardon fell to 8-5 on the year.  They return to action on April 24th when they travel to Riverside High School.
