PBR Spotlight Game: Clyde vs #25 Oregon Clay

OREGON – It has been more than a week since Oregon Clay was able to play a baseball game (weather) and it looked that way on Wednesday as the Clyde Fliers (6-4) traveled to Clay (3-1) and put a 12-7 thumping on the Eagles.

Ryan Kelley vs ClayClyde jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as John Jackson led the game off with a walk, later scoring on an RBI single by sophomore three-hole hitter Ryan Kelley (pictured right).

Clay took the lead in the 2nd inning as the Eagles scored two runs.

Junior Chandler Cannon got things rolling as the left-handed hitter roped an opposite-field double to left-center. Josh Mohr (junior) advanced Cannon to third on a sacrifice bunt before Christopher Walter (junior) drove Cannon home on an RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch to put Clay on top 2-1.

However, the 2-1 lead would not last for long as the Fliers scored six runs in the 3rd inning, capitalizing on Eagle miscues.

Jackson drew a lead-off walk, Drake Camarata (senior) was hit by a pitch and Jacob Robinett (senior) had an infield single that Jackson scored on thanks to an error.

Kelley followed with his second RBI single, this one a line drive shot to right, and sophomore speedster Frank Sewell loaded the bases with an infield single.

Then mistakes and some quality small ball led to four more runs. A couple of wild pitches, a squeeze, an error and another wild pitch (two scored, including Sewell from second base) and the score became 7-2.

It brought an end to the day for Cannon on the mound, with Zach Brown (junior) coming in to relieve.

After Clay cut the deficit to 7-3, the Fliers scored four more in the 4th.

Logan Hinkle vs ClayNate Gittinger (sophomore) reached on an infield single and Robinett walked which brought Kelley to the plate. The sophomore did not disappoint, lacing a two-run double to deep right-center for his third hit and fourth RBI of the game.

Now up 11-3, sophomore left-handed pitcher Logan Hinkle (pictured right) was able to settle in. The southpaw shut Clay down for two straight innings before allowing two runs in the 6th and giving way to freshman Robby Webb who finished the game off in the 7th.
