By Dylan Hefflinger

BOWLING GREEN- Maumee, ranked No. 40 in the latest poll, used a dominant performance by starting pitcher Steve Duby to defeat Perrysburg (12-8-2) for the third time this season for a Division I sectional championship.

The 6-0 Duby tossed a no-hitter in the 4-0 win allowing just two batters to reach base, one via the walk and one by a hit-by-pitch. The West Virginia recruit struck out 10 Yellow Jackets.Steve Duby, RHP

Duby used all four pitches with confidence. His fastball sat around the 83-86 mph range and topped out at 89. Duby's best pitch on the day was his slider which he consistently got over the plate. The pitch was in the 76-78 mph range with a tight break.

Maumee had some opportunities on offense, but could only do damage in the 2nd inning. After the frame started off with two fly ball outs, junior speedster David McCrum laced a double. Senior 9-hole hitter Ray Secondo drove McCrum home with an RBI single. Lead-off hitter, unsigned senior Billy Laranga, put runners on the corners with a single and two-hole hitter senior Justin Koepfer drove Secondo home with an RBI double. Duby put the final run of the game on the board with a run-scoring single to score Koepfer.

Duby, who went 4-4 on the day with four singles and an RBI, shut the Yellow Jackets down the rest of the way. Duby threw 101 pitches on the day with the final pitch being an 80 mph slider for a strikeout looking.

Maumee (14-7) advances to the districts at Bowling Green on May 17th at 4:15 p.m. against the winner of Friday's game between Sandusky and Norwalk.
