PBR Spotlight Game: Strongsville vs Medina

Everything was working for the Strongsville Mustang’s starting pitcher Brandon Lekan (Baldwin-Wallace commit) and he was only one-third of an inning away from pitching a complete game.

Lekan pitched six and two-thirds innings allowing one unearned run while scattering four hits (all singles), walking zero, and struck out seven batters. The final score in this NOC matchup had Strongsville coming away with the victory over Medina 5-1.

Pretty much all of the offense came by way of a big first inning from Strongsville, coming away with four runs.

A leadoff single from Strongsville’s right-fielder Jeremy Chupek got the inning started on the right path. A sacrifice bunt and a walk later set up an RBI single off the shorter right-field fence from clean up hitter, first-baseman Caleb Thomas (2015) scored the first run of the inning. Another walk and a costly error by Medina’s shortstop followed by another RBI single from second-baseman Sami Mehmed (2015) put Strongsville up four-runs in the first inning and that would be all they would need to eventually come away with the win.

Kent State signee Austin Havekost (Medina, 2015) came away as the hard luck loser in the contest. He overcame a slow first-inning start to pitch six and one-third strong innings of baseball giving up five runs (two earned), six hits, three walks, two hit batters, and seven strikeouts against a pesky Strongsville lineup.
